Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
Did anyone see Span and Gardy get tossed tonight?
It was awesome. Span got jobbed on a strike call and started lippin' off a bit to the ump. He supposedly made a remark about a horrible balk call on Liriano earlier and he got tossed. He started to get in the umps face until Gardy came out and calmed him down.
AND THEN Gardy went ape! Again, supposedly went off on the balk call.
It was pretty awesome.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
I did not. Does the MLB have a link to the footage on their website? Cause that would be more than worth watching. Unfortunately, I don't get FS North down here when I'm at school. So I have to rely on when they play on either ESPN or against the Royals or White Sox to actually see the games.
Definitely worth tracking down to see.I post the frog

Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
I have been holding my virtual tongue long enough. It's ******* rant time.
Rant #1.
Justin Morneau. This guy is such a snatch.
Don't get me wrong - I am very happy to hear his lingering concussion symptoms are not as prevalent and he is healthy enough to function as a normal human being. That is excellent news. BUT...he would be better off blaming every injury he has on his head, regardless from here on out because I have a hard time believing he needs 10+ days at a time for wrist/neck/back/arm/vagina or whatever the minor ache of the day is for him.
For a big guy who supposedly has a hockey mindset, he sure is fragile. I know guys like Sizemore, Ellsbury, etc... have injury problems, but at least when they are healthy they are productive. Morneau just doesn't seem to have that effectiveness anymore. He seems more like a .270/15/70 a year guy right now if he was healthy, but for being a supposed super star, former MVP and owner of a mega contract, that isn't much.
The Twins need to find someone who wants him so we can trade for some pitching or other prospects. His days as more than an average threat are long gone and we would be better off signing the Sun. Because at least that warms the bench for free and shows up every day.
Rant #2.
Eric Komatsu is horrible. I will refrain from bashing him too much, but after watching him last night and tonight, how in the hell is this man a major league player and why is he starting?
Last night Komatsu, batting .180 by the way, dropped a ball that hit him in the glove. I'm talking a straight up fly ball that hit him in the glove and then he floundered around the wall trying to pick it up. Tonight it's more of the same. Misplaying balls, not sure what to do, looking like a flat out clown in left.
So, the man can't hit, can't field, probably can't do much else, but yet we have no one better in our ENTIRE organization to play left field? Give me a break. Bring up Hicks or someone. Anyone. Just make it look like you are trying to win.
Rant #3.
Although not having as bad of a season as the two mentioned above, Joe Mauer is again underachieving. If it is not always a petty injury it is subpar performance.
I can't stand how he lately has been watching two strikes cross the plate and refuses to swing the bat. It's like he feels more comfortable swinging on an 0-2 count than trying to get on with a 1-1, 2-1, etc...
Some people believe this is because Gardenhire and his "system" holds back hitters, but I personally don't know enough about his system or the problems that other people are talking about to rant on here about it. Regardless, Mauer has been a different player since getting his big contract and is slipping from super-star to semi-star.
Rant #4.
Granted he would go on to star with whoever picked him up, get rid of Liriano. The guy will never be the same for us until he can get real coaching and get whatever demons in his head out. I doubt his ability is hampered from the surgery since his throws seems to be okay, but he seems to have a mental issue that is ruining his control.
I obviously can not prove that for fact, but look at Kyle Lohse and the other pitchers/players we can't use in Minnesota. We get rid of them and they go on to do great things for any other club. Maybe Liriano needs a fresh start.
------------------------------------------------------------------
All that being said, I am not a pro scout, I have no baseball experience after the high school level, and I am more of a casual fan than a hardcore one, but I still feel like my opinions are not that far from the truth.
Morneau and Mauer just don't seem to have it anymore, our pitching rotation is garbage, and our lack of (good) prospects make me a pretty negative person in regards to Twins baseball.
I'll still keep watching, and I love my team, but my bottom line is this: Gardie and some staff need to go.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
Diamond especially looked great tonight. He could be something special. I personally think Liriano would benefit from coming out of the bullpen for a little while. The guy has an ERA of 9+ (can't think of the exact number right now) let him be a mop-up guy for a little while before he gets back in the groove. Morneau needs to be traded. Period. End of story. We should still be able to get a few decent parts for him... maybe. Mauer... Mauer, Mauer, Mauer... I don't know what to think about him. I know he has the capability to play at an all-star level, it just isn't happening right now, but while I feel like he can turn it around, I am equally prepared for him not to be able to get turned around. But anyhow, Doumit is becoming the player I expected when we picked him up. Solid stretch of games for him. As far as Komatsu goes, all I can say is, he fits nicely with the rest of this lineup... it kind of looks like a mid-September kind of lineup (on paper anyway), and he's a mid-September kind of guy.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
Well, I got my wish and Liriano is now coming on in relief. Two days until I go up to Target Field. As long as they win when I'm there, I don't care if they don't win again all year... okay that's a lie, but it'd be nice if they won. As for tonights game... that was just rough to watch. I find myself turning the channel by the 6th inning a lot this year... they are absolutely unbearable to watch at times...MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Minnesota Twins 2012 Thread
Well, Walters far exceeded expectations tonight, I'll admit I was skeptical when I heard he was starting, but other than the Bautista home run, he pitched a good game (though to be fair, I couldn't tell where the pitch was, I was in the RF corner, good seats, but can't see pitch locations very well. I also thought for sure that Span's hit at the end of the game was at least two bases if not more. I thought it was in there... oh well. It was a fun game to watch anyway, and the pitching staff did well.MLB: Minnesota Twins
