2014 New York Mets

Nice article on 5 lesser known prospects that will be in big league camp this spring. One name, Jeff Walters, RP is someone that sounds interesting and a good possibility of filling in one of those holes:

Jeff Walters

Opposing Double-A hitters were dominated virtually all year by the performance of Jeff Walters. He set a single-season and career saves record in Binghamton by closing out 38 B-Met victories.

In 56 innings of work, he posted a 2.09 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 60 strikeouts and allowed 16 walks. His fastball sat in the 90-95 mph range coupled with a mid-80s slider.

He doesn't throw as hard as Leathersich does, but has shown much better control of his pitches around the strike zone in high-pressure situations. His 2013 performance has landed him on the Mets' 40-man roster. Anticipating a young big league bullpen, he'll be waiting for his opportunity in Triple-A.

No doubt the Mets have great pitching even w/o Harvey. However 4 automatic outs in the starting lineup ain't gonna cut it.

You would think that maybe we can package a couple of pitchers just so we can get a SS? Arizona has a boatload of prospect SS I envy. The only thing I can think of is that Syndergaard is in such demand that no GM has wavered in their request.

One other thing, I'm hoping and pulling for Ike. I like Ike but he needs to make a statement this spring.

I wouldn't get rid of any pitchers. Open up the wallet and make serious bids for Nelson Cruz and Drew.

They need atleast another bat or 2(Cruz and Drew would be great). Not impressed with the bullpen at all. No lead will be safe.

Theres a lot upside for this team in the near future. Just don't see us contending this year.

Here's the scouting report on Nick Franklin. Franklin was once the number 27th pick in the draft. Although, he hit .225 in 360 at bats in the Bigs last year, he's a .300 hitter that can hit from both sides of the plate. There is however a drop off in fielding between 2B and SS.

Seattle is looking for a young pitcher for him

If I am the Mets I am not giving up anybody especially after the news on Niese. With these young pitchers you don't really know who is going to be a standout in a year or two. I would wait to see who's who. Franklin is not the difference maker.

I like the OF upgrades, and the starting pitching should be good even without Harvey. The bullpen is a major concern, though.

I'd be happy with a .500 or slightly better record and for everyone to come out of the season healthy. I really think 2015 will see the Mets contend for the playoffs.

How nice would this lineup look right now...

Lagares - CF
Murphy - 2B
Wright - 3B
Granderson - RF
C. Young - LF
Duda - 1B
d'Arnaud - C
Drew - SS

Any chance Mets try to get Drew after the Draft? If he's still around.

I'll be watching the Mets on Saturday at Coors Field. Hopefully they perform better than the last few times I've seen them play in Denver.

We used to have a really nice contingent of Mets fans in here…I know the team hasn't been much the last few years, but where did everyone go?

I really, really think the future is bright for the Mets. Love their young starting pitching and think they are one bat away from being a threat in the NL East. Has there been any talk of them being in the running for Stanton?

They have great pitching. If Harvey comes back from surgery and is the pitcher he was before the Mets could lose 160 games 1-0 with their pitching. jk

Free agent curse continues with the acquisition of Granderson. They go nowhere until the Wilpons are gone. Real shame too. Wright is done. They need at least two really good hitters. Pagan and Reyes come to mind.

Hopefully the wealth of young arms leads to a trade to acquire a big bat. If done right, I think they could pry Tulo and/or Cargo from Colorado. Both guys would make a huge impact on the lineup.
