Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
That's not why he's there. He's not a lefty specialist. He's always been better against righties; his best pitch is his changeup. Righties are only hitting .146 against him. He's got a 1.15 whip. Overall, hitters are hitting just .226 against him. His fip is 3.02. He's not fantastic by any means, but he's a good pitcher. That said, he threw 17 pitches yesterday, probably shouldn't have been in the game today.Comment

I think he's a decent pitcher by our current bullpen standards, meaning I'd rather see him than a lot of the trash we have out there, but he is not a good major league pitcher."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Bethancourt sent down. He deserved it. If you can't hit, you better make plays defensively. Read this in the press clip, pretty bad D: Bethancourt ranked third among National League leaders in most passed balls (five) and tied for fourth in errors (three) despite playing in less than half of his team’s games.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I'm thinking he let his offense (or lacktherof) get into his head defensively. And you can't do that. Hopefully he can get straightened out in Triple A. I still see him longterm as a solid backup, but right now he's not even that.Comment

Maybe it's a communication issue but beyond his arm, I wasn't impressed; he doesn't have soft hands (continually darting his glove to catch it annoyed me as his pitch framing has a lot to be desired too). As well as AJ has played, I think ATL would've been better served keeping Laird just for Bethancourt.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Wonder what the details for Folty's demotion was. His stats are very similar to Stults after 9 games, so that points to why, but I wonder if it's just a short term thing or not?

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I am wandering. The Braves sent down both Folty and Bethancourt. Yes both of them are stinking up the joint. I also say this is on non .500 team. The management is sending and calling up guys like they're in da hunt for championship of any kind.
How about this off season acquisition? $11 million per year .302, 0 HR, 20 RBI through 60 plus games. Hey I am not made at any player who can get their money and team knowing "They have no power". At least put the guy in lead-off spot or number 2 slot in the lineup.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Depends on how he does down there, I imagine. He isn't quite ready for the majors. His era in triple A last year was over 5. It was really good so far this year, but only through 21 innings, and his walks were still too high. You can't leave him at the majors pitching the way he was; he wouldn't get the chance to improve and you'd lose him.Comment

Wisler coming up tomorrow. I don't know how I feel because he has been struggling at AAA with a 4 ERA

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I know it's only one start and he won't do that every time out, but man, what a shot in the arm Wisler's start was. He was extremely impressive! The funny thing is that the scouts kept saying Folty was closer to MLB ready than Wisler, but I think you see the difference in one guy who knows how to pitch already while the other guy has stuff and just throws. Regardless, I'm curious to see if they keep Wisler up and stick him in the rotation.
On another note, we haven't sung the praises of Jace Peterson enough. I really liked him in ST and he got off to a slow start, but you can actually see him improving defensively and offensively as the season goes on. I will be interested to see what we do here because Perazza is supposed to be the 2B of the future and I keep hearing that Jace moves to third, but Jace doesn't have the power for 3B and loses a lot of his value over there IMO. I really like having him and Simmons up the middle...with Maybin in CF that's a strong defensive unit.
Crazy that as frustrating as this season has been, we are 2.5 games out of first...the Mets/Nats might regret their early season struggles."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I know they have been using Peraza in the OF in the minors some, but I'd like more power from that position just like 3B. Not sure how it will shake out, but I really like Peterson too.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
ATL really needs these rooks to step and play well.
Eury Perez, Peterson, Wisler...really would do our organization good as it would be bring much needed depth.
I think Perez would be a good outfield filler; good speed, while he doesn't have much power (.080 ISO) he doesn't K too much either. His AAA numbers are pretty good (.746 OPS with a .370 OBP).
I'd love to limit Johnny to limited play time, like we did with Hinske a few years back (33% K rate and .617 OPS are horrible).Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
