Finally got a win, but good grief, we made it difficult. What was Perez doing on that ball!? It was Maybin's all the way...I just couldn't believe they botched that.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
You completely ignored the part of me saying he was an rbi machine for a 2nd baseman. Peterson has started to come along nicely lately outside of his slump. Anytime he's up and someone is on, I feel very confident he'll knock them in. He's only gotten better as the year has progressed and at this rate I don't see why he can't become the future for the organization.
The team still needs better prospects around the field for me to be confident though. I'm fine with the starting pitchers we've got, but we have guys that are average all around, but don't standout anywhere in the minors.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Do Braves trade some pitching for hitting at the deadline?

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
There's no one really for us to trade. Maybe Grilli? Might be able to get a decent prospect for him. You're not trading Miller, and you're not trading Teheran, Perez, or Wood unless you get a huge haul back.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I keep reading that the Braves have already shopped Teheran and are willing to part with him for a decent bat prospect (at least according to Mark Bowman). I think that would be foolish, basically selling low on a young with pitcher with potential."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Depends on what they're getting back. If they get a really good corner outfield or 3b prospect with power that's close, then go for it. Anything less, I think you hold onto him. Of the young, somewhat established, major league pitchers they have that would be enticing to playoff caliber clubs (So, Teheran, Wood, and Miller), Julio is the only one you can even think about giving up, and even with his struggles, he's still one of the most valuable assets in the franchise.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I could see the Braves trading Julio while he has value if his struggles continue. Should've traded Jurrjens in his prime and I think this is another situation like that.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I don't think the two situations are similar though...Jurrjens was a good pitcher before the injuries ruined him. You don't know if a pitcher is going to suffer injuries, plus Teheran has better stuff than Jurrjens ever did."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
Teheran doesn't have stuff anymore. Guy is the worst pitcher on the staff right now and it isn't close. Maybe he'll return back to his old self and I'm not saying this again 2 months from now.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I don't know that stuff is the problem. I think it's location. There was an article somewhere (I'm sorry, I don't remember where) that found by looking at heat maps that he's attacking the bottom of the zone at a far higher rate than he did last year. He's also walking a lot more guys. It also attributes some of it to bad luck; he has a pretty high babip, and his expected home runs vs actual home runs, while being extremely good the last two years, is very bad this year. Overall, he's probably not as good as he was last year (though with his age and potential, he could develop into that), but he's also not as bad as this year. I personally believe the 18% increase in innings pitched last year could be a part of the culprit too. I'm hopefully 2016 will be good for him, but I have no expectation of a big turnaround this season.Comment

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
I sure hope the Braves don't trade Maybin. It's been so great seeing a CF or there producing. All these trade rumors though. And he genuinely seems the like playing for this team.

Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves
If you're rebuilding, and want to build a championship team, you have to commit to it. Maybin is the best trade asset we have besides the young guys you aren't moving. He's 28. There's a reaaalllyy good chance he's not on this team when they contend again. He's waaayyyy above his career numbers, and may be it's something clicking, maybe it's luck, or maybe (likely) it's somewhere in the middle. He's a good obp/speed guy with just a tiny bit of pop. Don't get me wrong, I like Maybin, and I've been a fan if his for years, but he's the type of guy our system is dripping with right now. You can probably get a pretty damn good package for him right now. I say do it. Sell high.
Markakis, on the other hand, I doubt anyone would take him unless we ate the contract, and even then it's iffy. A corner outfielder with 0 hr? Nope.Comment
