    Re: 2023 Atlanta Braves

How are you guys feeling about AA these days? I'm completely turned off from baseball for about 4 years now, but I catch enough headlines to get the gist of what's going on. Seems like he has made some good acquisitions like Chris Sale and maybe a few others, but he also hasn't done anything at all to boost the farm system where available (or do any kind of forward looking moves). Which falls in line with where he was when I still watched, but back then he was still pretty new to the organization. So, I never blamed him for not shaking things up, but he's been in charge for I think 8 years now. I obviously don't follow the team like I used to, but from what little I have seen it seems like he has had a tendency to buy high on guys and then not sell high even if they aren't a world series team.

I may be speaking completely out of ignorance here. I was just starting up a new game of OOTP the other day and this question popped in my mind, and I wanted to ask people who are much more engaged than me.

I feel like he's more concerned with proving himself to be the smartest guy in the room rather than just making the smartest move. He's not terrible, but he's overrated.

He's had his hits, for sure. The Sale trade being one of them. But he's had his fair share of misses, too. Trading Contreras (along with prospects) to downgrade at catcher. And while I like Matt Olson, I'll never forgive AA for pushing Freddie out. Re-signing him should have been a slam dunk. Letting Dansby walk isn't aging well either.

I get confused by the strategy sometimes. I get we're never going to spend like the Mets and Dodgers. I can live with that. And we're never going to be the Pirates either. He's clearly focused on staying below the tax line. Again, I get it. But then last year he takes on $30M in bad contracts (we're paying David Fletcher $7M to sit in AA right now) to get Jarred Kelenic. That's a lot of money for the Braves, you'd think he'd want someone more proven for that.
