Super Mega Baseball 2 hitting tips?

For those playing Super Mega Baseball 2 any tips on hitting. I'm trying to get the hang of it but I just can't keep up. By the time my brain registers which way the ball is going I need to swing and don't have time to even start trying to aim with the reticle meaning that most of my swings just whiff.

What ego are you playing on? I would suggest starting real low and gradually going up. I went up 2-3 ego after a few games to get used to the speed of the ball

I'm a newcomer and not nearly as good as anybody in this thread but besides the EGO question are you mostly swinging early or later? How often are you using CONTACT VS POWER swings?

I've gotten better by repetition obviously and am trying the more difficult power swings more often in meaningless exhibition games but I have not upped the EGO considerably.

By the way do the "power pitches" drain pitcher stamina more than regular ones?

Power pitches don't drain stamina more than regular ones. They're just harder to locate.

My timing has been fairly good. I lean a bit towards early but not overly so. As for contact vs power I've mostly been using power because my team in season mode mostly has better power ratings than contact.

You don't have to aim your swing. The reticle will float towards the pitch location, so you can just worry about timing. Yes, it helps to move the reticle a little bit on swings high or low to get better contact. But, if you are just whiffing, then I would just focus on timing and getting a pitch worth swinging at.

I've been working my way up. I was doing fine through 55 at which point I was solidly beating everyone but then I moved it up a notch to 56 and suddenly I can't hit anything.

I recently jumped from 55 to 60 and suffered my first loss (9-6 thanks to a weak bullpen). I still cranked out 14 hits and 3 or 4 HRs. At that level I still leave the PCI centered and let the computer move the PCI as needed. I also still look for good pitches.


The speed of FB definite jumped from 55 to 60 though and it took me the biggest chunk of the game to even come close to getting timing down. Now, the CPU change ups are even more deadly I swung early and missed more than once at that pitch.

maybe something in this video could help.. not sure. but i will say I think I'm currently play on 60 ego but I'm in that 50 - 60 range. I do what most everyone says here but I think I like to guess location more with my PCI. I also like to purposely start the PCI low so if follows it up will be under the ball slightly already if that makes sense? but when playing users online. I for sure guess low corners or where I think they will throw me because it's a lot easier guessing human opponents from my experience

I don't understand power hitting.

You have to "power up" a bit early and then let go of the power swing button to swing.

If you start "powering up" on-time, you'll probably be late when you let go of the button to swing.

If you're too early when you start "powering up", then you'll lose your power by the time you swing.

In order to take the pitch, just keep holding the power swing button. Your player will never swing then.

You can't ever check swing a power swing because of how the mechanics.

I decided to use the right stick instead of the buttons for hitting and it's been a game changer for me. You can check power swings with the stick, too.

what are you doing when you pitch and hit? you might want to lower your ego to where you feel like it fits your skill then slowly increase it
