    Gottfried Gets New Contract

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama basketball coach Mark Gottfried signed a new six-year contract worth $1 million a year, athletic director Mal Moore said Sunday.

The deal, with a $200,000 base salary and $800,000 in talent fees, makes the 41-year-old Gottfried the first Alabama basketball coach to reach the $1 million mark. Gottfried became Alabama coach in 1998, going 143-83.

"Our staff has done a tremendous job and our young men continue to make me proud on and off the court. This is a place where my wife and I want to be for a long time," Gottfried said.

Gottfried has averaged 22.6 wins over the past five seasons, including an appearance in the NCAA regional semifinals in 2004. He has led the Crimson Tide to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

He's currently the highest paid coach at Alabama(yes, even more than Mike Shula). Well deserved raise if you ask me.

Well, he wins ball games, of course he should get paid more than Shula.

Yeah but its a bold statement to the football first fans. I personally think this will help recruiting. Prospects will see that Bama does actually care about basketball.
