So You're A Bubble Team? Well Then...

if these teams fail to win their conference tourneys..it would be disastrous for bubble teams..

A-10: George Washington....there is a very slim chance that LaSalle could get a bid...but if neither win the A-10 tourney...then a bubble will burst

Colonial: George Mason or Hofstra are likely locks...but if someone else wins the CAAC tourney...a bubble will go pop...

MAAC: Iona could get an at-large if they finish strong...and if they do...they'll need to win the MAAC tourney...this is a 1 bid conference if Iona wins the tourney title...if not...its possibly a 2 bid..which would burst a bubble...

OVC: Murray State is in the same position as Iona...a strong finish...and they dont need to win the OVC tourney...and a bubble is burst..

Patriot League: This is classic...Bucknell will be in the field of 65 no matter what happens...so if anyone but them wins the Patriot...POP!

Sun Belt: One could argue that if Western Kentucky finishes strong they are at-large worthy...the Sun Belt could possibly get 2 bids if WKU doesnt win the tourney..

West Coast: Gonzaga better win it...if they dont...the WCC gets 2 bids...POP!

You'll hear more about them come tourney time. They have a good record and a decent RPI. They are in the DC/No. VA area.

With so many teams playing mediocre bball in the "power" conferences like the ACC, SEC, Pac 10 and Big 12 i think this is the year you see the mid majors take some of those bids they dont usually get -- especially from the MVC and possibly a Hofstra or a GM.

I'm sure you guys (Maryland) remember them very very well from the 2001 tournament out in Boise.

Obviously, another one is if Memphis doesn't win it. I know that sounds far fetched, since it's in Memphis, but if not...there goes another bid.

I agree with you on George Washington, Gonzaga and Bucknell.

I think UNC Wilmington has a better shot at an at-large than Hofstra at this point.

The rest of them (Sun Belt, OVC, MAAC) will not be getting two bids, period. WKU, Iona, nor Murray State have a good enough resume to get an at-large bid. However, if they were to win the conference tourney, any of those three teams could pull an upset, especially Iona.

No sorry, I've only been a full on NCAA college basketball fan from the beginning of 2002 on.

2002 - I remember the IU dream run to the final under embattled Davis, with an upset of Duke. ND nearly beat Duke the round before. Kent State's Elite 8

2003 - 4 Big East Sweet 16 teams with ND clinching their spot on my 18th birthday at the Illini's expense. Picked UConn to win it all a year early

2004 - St. Joes almost Final Four with Jameer and Delonte. UConn

2005 - West Virginia and Pitsnogle before Williams finally got his ring

Yeah. I caught a few of their games this year before i left dc. They looked pretty good this year. Much better than that 2001 team.

I should add 06 and GMU/no 1 seeds now. When i posted the first reply on this thread, i had no idea who they were. Even when they made it, i thought MSU/UNC would be too much for them. I started believing and rooting when GMU got to Washington DC.

It's cool to read what people thought they knew a month ago.

George Mason is a blast to watch, and everyone's been pulling for them. If they beat Florida I dont care if they win it all really.

I have Glen Davis, Tasmin Mitchell and Taurean Green on my tourney draft teams so I just need them to GET to the final game, i dont care who wins it then besides maybe some SEC pride. Unfortunately about 1 month after the dance ends that SEC pride will turn into envy and LSU/Florida fans bragging in our faces. Thats just the way it goes.
