If you go by stat sheets you don't have a feel for college basketball. Tech plays a up tempo in your face style for 40 mins. They run and gun. They might not hit lots of their shots but they push the ball up the court.
Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?

No, for two reasons.
There isn't a PG in college like Steve Nash. The closest thing we saw to him is Chris Paul two years ago. Nash's court vision is amazing IMO, and a skill that you see players rarely develop in college.
There also aren't five players on a team as skilled like you see in the pros, especially on the suns. Carolina is the closest you can get to that, but again you don't have a PG who can set up easy points for them like Nash can.-Rocky Balboa"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

True. North Carolina will also look to post up Tyler Hansbrough and Brandon Wright whenever they're forced to play at a slower tempo. And the Suns really don't post anyone up unless Amare Stoudemire rolls to the basket and occasionally calls for the ball on a pick-and-roll.
Memphis, however, look to push the ball up the court at all times for easy baskets, yet still play the drive-and-kick game whenever they're forced to run their half court offense. They play a style of basketball that closely resembles the Suns. But the main differences between the Tigers and the Suns is that the Tigers are not as consistent in shooting the 3-ball as the Suns. And also the Tigers will have their forwards putting the ball on the floor and slashing to the basket as opposed to strictly Nash and Leandro Barbosa doing so for the Suns.

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
what?
tempo is what it is, that stat does not lie, it is the number of possessions in a game
the stats say Georgia Tech is not that much a run and gun teamComment

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
Ok I watch the team just about every game they are on and the stat tells the truth? You mean to tell me the Ramblin Wreck don't push the ball up the court and play a halfcourt grind it out style?

maybe compared to Air Force or Northwestern, but they are nowhere near the likes of VMI, North Carolina, Maryland, or DavidsonComment

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
Nobody is anywhere near VMI!!!!!!!!!! UNC pushes it a lot yes, and MD didn't do it all that much late in the season. Their cheap baskets came from Strawberry cherry picking rebounds. Davidson doesn't run and gun either.President of the Devils Den

i still find it hilarious that you are trying to find an argument with a stat that is simply the number of possessions a team has in a gameComment

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
id say UNLV is.
but they have a ben wallace type blocker in Joel Anthony so they have some "defensive" mindset in their game. but hes like the amare of the suns. and kruger is steve nash.Comment

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
I'm beyond shocked at your statements. How could you even POSSIBLY deduce how long I've been a Suns fan from a message board? You're obviously in possesion of some real strong talents, maybe you should offer them for some good use.You mean a team that focuses on nothing but offense and has a soft suspect defense?
I'm sure you'll find plenty of those type of squads in the NIT. If there is a team like that in the NCAA Tourney, don't expect them to win anything....sort of like the Phoenix Suns.
BTW, like most Suns fans, sounds like you're a Grade A Caliber Bandwagon hopper, so make sure you pay the fee for whoever you decide to roll with.
You want to know how long I've been a Suns fan? Since the 1993 season, when I was 5 years old. That season was my first sports memory, and it was pretty much because I was brainwashed by my older brother, who had been a Suns fan long before that. I remember crying in front of the TV screen when John Paxson hit "The Shot".
I actually feel kind of stupid even responding to your absurd notions. Why don't you try to flex your "internet might" elsewhere, because that **** doesn't fly with me.
Oh, and just in case you think I'm a bandwagon hopper for asking about who plays like the Suns for the NCAA tourney, why don't you keep in mind that I don't really know that much about college basketball to begin with, and am interested in watching teams in this tournament that play a similar style, something that I'm accustomed to?
As for your "Suns will never win with their soft suspect defense", thats another discussion for another time, but I'd like to stop you right there and just say that maybe you should come up with an original thought once in a while and not spew the same old rhetoric that you hear from the media and other people. If you actually looked at the numbers or watched the games, you'd realize otherwise.
To the others who actually had something productive to say in this discussion....I thank you a lot. Seems like I have a lot to look forward to in the tournament this year!Comment

Bandwagoners are the worst of sinners, they should be lined up and shot!

Yes, they should. I get very annoyed from all the Suns supporters who like them now, but couldn't care less about the team even 4 years ago, when we were 29-53.Comment

Re: Is there a team in the tournament that plays like the Suns?
Because I see the style of play they play. Stats don't always back that up. A team that runs a slow offensive set to keep Tech from running up and down the floor like Duke did in Cameron don't always help that little stat you hold so dear. Stats are just on paper not what is actually played on the court.President of the Devils Den

thats why i gave you adjusted tempo, which does take that into account
and guess what, they are even lower in adjusted tempo which means the opponents account for more of the uptempo play in Tech gamesComment
