The problem I think most people have about this year isn't just the lack of upsets, it was the lack of competitive games.

Even in years where there weren't many upsets, games were close (Ex: Pacific/BC 2OT game from last year)

This year, there were so many beatdowns, and so many teams that would go in scoring droughts of six, seven, eight plus minutes long.

That Holy Cross - So. Ill game was one of the worst played basketball games I have ever seen. At one point I recall 5 guys diving for the ball and still nobody could score after that. Just brutal basketball, I flicked the channel after about 3 minutes of that torture.

Take away Torey Thomas rediculous speed and he wouldnt start for a division 3 college. My god is he erratic with his shots, everytime he put up a shot I thought "eww" in my mind. And some idiot from the Worcester T n G said Keith Simmons could play with anyone in the country, 0-5 and 4 points off of ft's.
18-1 hell of a season regardless

It's funny how whenever there's a defensive battle, people view it as a horrible and ugly game between two bad teams, lol

Because I was curious and had nothing better to do, I decided to see just how bad games were this year in terms of close, down to the wire games. 2007 set a record (since 1985 when field expanded to 64) for number of games determined by nine points or less.

Number of Games Decided By 9 Points Or Less:
              2007: 9 games
              2006: 18 games
              2005: 14 games
              2004: 14 games
              2003: 17 games
              2002: 12 games
              2001: 15 games
              2000: 13 games
              1999: 11 games
              1998: 14 games
              1997: 10 games
              1996: 12 games
              1995: 17 games
              1994: 11 games
              1993: 10 games
              1992: 13 games
              1991: 14 games
              1990: 15 games
              1989: 14 games
              1988: 15 games
              1987: 15 games
              1986: 18 games
              1985: 19 games

              Needless to say, boo!

To each their own but one of the beauties of the game is the identity of each team. SIU has the 3rd best defensive unit in the country and loves it when the score is in the 50's. I have zero problems at all with it. S. Illinois could make a deep run this year.

Games start in an hour and a half! These look to be the best ones IMO:

Butler-Maryland, Louisville-A&M, Vanderbilt-Washington State, and I'll be very interested in VCU-Pitt as well.

Yup. I wouldn't be surprised to see Xaiver steal it, if they can get Oden in foul trouble maybe..

Did the people defending the SIU/Holy Cross game actually watch it? Based on reputation and regular season results, yes, these are two very intense defensive teams. Yes, everyone knew the score would be low. But Good God, I have never seen a poorer display of basketball fundamentals combined from both teams in one game. Holy Cross had 20 turnovers to their FOURTEEN made field goals (yes check the box score), and half of them were due to extremely poor offensive execution, not SIU's defensive intensity. That game was absolutely brutal to watch, and this is coming from a fan of one of the biggest ball-control, grind-it-out, defensive intensity teams in the country, the one that didn't allow 70 points scored in a game all year...I love low-scoring defensive games, not the crap I had to watch last night.
