Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
And? This is a team, people are acting like are lucky to be there. They are forgetting Oregon has beaten Georgetown, UCLA, Washington St. and Arizona. They are forgetting this team won the Pac 10 tourney, and they did it by hammering that USC team that just beat up on Texas.
Oregon is no joke, yet people like yourself treat them like one, and act as if they haven't done anything to deserve respect.
yes, i treat them like a joke even though i had them in the Elite 8
but the point is, they havent beaten anybody yet in the tourneyComment

Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
Because people that know nothing about college basketball think that the Pac-10 is a bad conference. If any of you read Bill Simmons you'll see he also said that Pac-10 was the 2nd worst BCS conference, when in reality they are probably top 2. I laughed when USC beat his team in Texas.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
This is the biggest reason.
Pacific Northwest states aka Washington State and Oregon, like Northern New England statess, don't have the college basketball history and results. They never had, and never will unless Oregon forces me to change my mind.Comment

Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
And to those who think that was a jab at the Pac 10 it's not.
I said Pacific Northwest states. not Pac 10, meaning Californi's not included, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana along with Maine NH and Vermont (Northern New England) are the weakest regions for college basketballComment

I think you could add Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota in there as well. And to those who think that was a jab at the Pac 10 it's not.

I will say this though, I think that there's a huge gap between the 1 and #3 seeds this year, more than in past years. As a Nebraska fan, I got to see us get pounded by 2 of the remaining sweet 16 teams, Oregon and Kansas. Oregon beat us 68-56 on the road. Kansas beat us 92-39 on the road. My thought is that Kansas may be slightly better based on that. The other parallel you can draw to that is that we also lost to a horrible rutgers team the next week. That rutgers team then got beat 87-48 by North Carolina. Obviously, you can't really compare teams that much at different points in the season--I do think though that when Kansas, NC, Florida, etc are on their game, they're on a whole other level than everyone else.

Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
I felt going into the tournament that the top of the Pac-10 was as strong as the top of the vaunted ACC, if not stronger. I also thought that Washington State and Oregon were both potential final four teams, and I put both in my Elite Eight. I thought Washington State was a little better than Oregon, as they'd seemed more consistent, but Oregon was scarier when they were on. The result of that faith so far, of course, is that Washington State's burned me. I'm hoping Oregon doesn't flame out similarly.Comment

Re: Why is oregon getting no respect
Well you have to look at it objectively. In the past ten NCAA tournaments there have only been four teams out of the Pac-10 to reach the FF if I remember correctly (Zona twice, Stanford in '98 and UCLA last year) and only one title.
Plus you have situations like Stanford in '04 having a great regular season before losing to a very average Bama team in the second round. To me it seems like almost every Pac-10 team is overhyped, the only one to win a title was Zona in a huge upset over Kentucky.
I remember in '98 UConn blew Stanford out by 20, Stanford went on to go to the FF. Then the following year they went out to Stanford (who was ranked 4th at the time) and won by 11 without Rip Hamilton who was injured.
Then in '01 when Zona made the Finals, UConn went out there and beat them during Okafor and Gordon's frosh year. That was the game that sparked those two career's. Okafor had 19 pts, 15 boards and 13 blocks (though he was only credited with 9 for some reason) and Gordon has 23 off the bench including five triples. The funny thing is that Zona team had better future pros on it than the Dookie team that year, but I will admit that Duke had a better college team that year.
Basically, when I look at the whole picture of recent basketball history the Pac-10 pales in comparison to the ACC and Big East, which is why so many people disrespect it. Outside of UCLA the last two years, I look at as a generally soft league. The Zona teams are always soft in my eyes, as are the Stanford teams."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Oregon isn't getting much respect because they went 3-5 in February. They fell off the radar and are just now getting back on it.Twitter
