intersting, Sporting News magazine is picking USC to finish 7th in the Pac-10. Not because they think they'll be bad but because the conference is so good.

      Re: The Pac 10 Thread

      Hey guys..

I grew up watching Pac10 basketball, but i was always more of a NBA Guy.

It wasnt until Josh Howards Sophmore year that i really took a bigger intrest in to College hoops. Since then ive Followed Wake Forest.

I live in the bay born and raised, so i want to root for the pac 10 and the local team Bears.

Im in a quandry though, since i never went to college i dont feel liek i have ties to a college school like i have in the NBA with the warriors who ive watched since i was little.

But me being a huge basketball fan and a renewed love of college basketball i want a team to follow obviously.... so along with Wake, who i like alot since they got me back in to college hoops; I'm thinking of following Cal...

Now i know of Devon Hardin but i dont know who the coach is even and what his coaching philosophy is blah blah blah....

help me!!! i feel so lost and bandwagonish....

        Coach: Ben Braun
Player you REALLY NEED TO KNOW: Ryan Anderson, who came kinda outa nowhere to be the Golden Bears leading scorer and rebounder last year. Some thought he should've been the Freshman of the Year last year.

Cal also has Jamal Boykin who is sitting out this year. He's a transfer from Duke. Not a lot of size, but he's got a non-stop motor and is a solid rebounder.

-USC is the worst team in college basketball after losing to Mercer, and their schedule is weak.

That thread from start to end was amazing. I think a lot of it has to do with the normal east coast fans, much like SEC fans in football thinking the sun rises and sets in the basketball world back there, being threatened by the Pac 10.

You can't be serious. Don't even try and pull that East Coast bias BS this season no way and no how. Pac 10 by all pundits and a lot of people on here think it's the best conference in the nation. Don't see the EC bias in that statement. I never said that Southern Cal was the worst team in college basketball either by losing to Mercer don't put words into my mouth. It was a terrible loss to a team that had no business winning on the Trojans homefloor though, and seeing Mayo play within himself the past few games look at the results. He has gotten Gibson involved more, and the rest of the team has picked it up. Hence why they rolled over SIU. I'm not threatened by the Pac 10 in anyway. I even picked a Pac 10 team to win it all in UCLA. Heck the Pac 10 probably will send 7 teams to the NCAA's and that's justified due to the depth and talent out west. So don't come in here bringing that EC bias card and all that it gets old.

Actually, I'm a little worried about this game. The Cougs have looked a little sluggish in the beginning and its showed in almost all of their games. They haven't gone out there and jumped on teams, they've let them hang around until the half and then blow them out 2nd half. They had a close call against a solid Air Force team on Friday.

Also, their next game after Baylor is Gonzaga...which is going to be unbelievable. I'm just hoping they aren't looking into the future rather than focusing on Baylor. GO COUGS!

I wouldn't be surprised if Baylor knocks off WSU. Even though undefeated, Wazzu has struggled in some games defensively against inferior opponents. Having to go on the road against a good perimeter shooting team is a decent task for the Cougs...and their Achilles heal under the Bennetts.

Plus I think Baylor owes them one after the football debacle last year.

Yeah its all East Coast bias that Zona somehow makes it into the tournament every year on Lute Olsen's name alone and flames out in the first round, or EC bias that UCLA makes deep runs to the FF, EC bias that had 3 Pac 10 teams in Oregon, Southern Cal, UCLA in the Sweet 16 (Wash State a few plays away from joining them losing in double overtime to Vandy), 2 of em in the Elite Eight in Oregon, UCLA. Not to mention everyone and their brother has the Pac 10 the best conference this year, and a lot of people picking a Pac 10 team to win the NC (UCLA). Yep man gotta hate that East Coast bias. Pull that chip off your shoulder and just enjoy college hoops. No East Coast bias can crown a NC. Everyone has to go out and earn it winning 6 games. I see how you could say that in football, but basketball??? Especially this season? Give me a break.

As for the proof in that thread about Mayo...come on they were a ranked team at home playing Mercer for crying out loud. Injuries or not when you are ranked have some expectations and lose you deserve to be criticized for it, and especially when one player tries to take over a game. Not only that not one player on Mercer could start for Southern Cal or anyone else in the Pac 10. That was a bad loss. Can't spin it no matter how hard you try. Injury to a few players or not, frosh or not Mercer had no business waltzing halfway across the country and taking it to the Trojans on their home floor. Since OJ hasn't done that lately and let the game come to him and get other players involved poof!!!!!!!!! 5 game winning streak and they totally destroyed a potential Sweet 16 team in Southern Illinois.

I still can't believe some of you can't get over that loss to Mercer. Why do you think they were able to handle Southern Illinois? Maybe because most of their players were back, and they could play more than five young kids? Also, what's with pinning that loss all on one player. The lack of logic when the subject is Mayo is incredible.

Still, it is what it is, a bad loss, no matter how you try to spin it.

Oh well the west coast will never be able to compete with the east coast and I am glad the selection comitee keeps holding you Pac-10 people down. /bkbait

Of course it was a bad loss. But why people want to single out a freshman is beyond me. People seem to easily dismiss huge factors as to why they lost that game. It's so far back it's not even worth discussing anymore, as SC seems to have gained a bit of a rhythm as of late.
