Perhaps the best game OOC game of the season, this should be a good one. Plenty of great match ups in this one.

I'll take Georgetown in this one.

Posey won't be shooting 90% or whatever ridiculous percentage he is shooting from the field right now because he will be up against a quality big man. Also, I think Georgetown's princeton style offense frustrates Memphis into trying to force the up-style tempo causing them to make mistakes. I also think that Memphis will have problems defending Georgetown.

Memphis is such an up-and-down team. They can look dominant for a stretch, then look like they have completely forgotten how to play basketball minutes later. Tough for me to gauge them at this point of the season.

I think this will be a relatively low scoring game that reach the 60s, and give Georgetown the slight nod to win only because they play more consistent defense of the teams.

I don't want to get the thread way off topic, but:

Going into last year it looked like we were on our typical path...

A really strong year, then a down year or two while laying the path for another run at a title.

Had a great team in '96 with Ray Allen but came up short, then after we lost the key members of that team we struggled in '97 with Rip Hamilton as a frosh but that was laying the roots for the '99 title team.

After the '99 title we struggled for a year or two but but then came Caron Butler, followed by Okafor & Gordon, etc and another title in '04.

We had the strong class two years younger than that but that was the '06 upset loss to G-Mason.

Now we should have been in the typical rebuilding phase (last year and this) and be strong again by next year, but this is the first time that we had lost as much talent as we did following the '06 season and combine that with the fact that we have don't have the typical clear-cut NBA prospect. No Allen, Hamilton, Butler, Okafor, Gordon, Villanueva, Gay, etc.

The team doesn't have an identity, a go-to guy. Some people think Calhoun "missed" with a majority of these recruits. They still struggle on offense way too much. I mean, as mostly freshman this team led the entire country in FG% defense last year and still didn't sniff the post season. That's when you know you've got problems.

Price - tons of talent but the brain hemorrhage and laptop scandal. Will never be the player he could have been coming out of HS.

Dyson - Good, tough player. Probably should be the 2nd perimeter option on a typical UConn team though. Not a great shooter and a little undersized.

Robinson - He's the one everyone is waiting for and counting on. Had a terrible freshman season, looked lost on the court. He's looking better this year, more aggressive, but his shot still isn't falling.

Adrien - Solid player, but should be the 4th option on a UConn team. Kevin Freeman/Edmund Saunders type of player. Undersized.

Thabeet - I was frightened at what I saw from him last year and felt bad for him at times, but he is improving a lot this year despite what he showed against Memphis and Gonzaga, which is probably the only time people have seen him this year. I think he'll turn out to be a pretty good pro player.

Austrie - A-10 level guard, originally committed to UMass. Good shooter but not quick or athletic. Spot up shooter only. Good basketball IQ, doesn't force things.

Wiggins - A-10 level guard too, originally committed to St. John's. Small, quick, not a great shooter.

Kelly - Looks like he's going to be a bust. NYC's POY in '06 seems to have an attitude problem and struggles against anyone his size. Shows flashes against low and mid-majors, but rarely even plays against Big East teams.

Edwards - I actually like Edwards, he doesn't have a ton of skill but plays hard as hell and knows his role. He can finish around the hoop.

Mandeldove - No idea why we offered this guy a scholie. How knows though, he looked better as a frosh than Hilton Armstrong did.

Beverly - Rarely used frosh PG, too early to tell.

Plus you throw in Marcus Johnson who transferred out. Heck, his freshman year NBADraft.net had him as the 9th overall pick in in the 2008 draft. 6'6", athletic as hell but can't shoot at all and never put it together on the court.

Memphis has something to prove, and Gtown has something to hang their hat on. Going into Memphis and getting a W will be huge for this group. This is a new team, and a new year and if they want to make the FF again which I think they can and will.....they need to win games like this one. I see it coming down to FT shooting though and Gtown by far has the better in that dept. I see a Hoya W in this one.
