Re: The Official 2009 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
They could be better, but they don't deserve a 2 seed over Duke considering Duke's absolutely outstanding resume and computer profile this year. Neither does Villanova.
However, with all of that said, I do think Villanova will beat Duke.Comment

There is no way Gonzaga gets a #2 seed coming from that **** conference, Villanova I cant argue against but Duke had also just won the ACC conference tournament so they deserved it just as much as anyone else. If they had gotten a #1 because of that then I can see where you guys are coming from but they didnt so what the hells the problem? You cant seriously tell me that something that happened 8 years ago is causing you to hate Duke that much today? Hell, Gonzaga lost to Portland St this season.Comment

I agree, as a Duke fan I had them losing to Texas today so I clearly dont have a ton of confidence in them. Villanova's defense will kill us so I dont like our chances but anything can happen I suppose.Comment

More overrated on a consistent basis? Arizona, UCLA, and Kentucky just to name three teams. No team is overrated on a more consistent basis than Duke. Don't get me started on how their "recruits" somehow become higher rated the second they sign at Duke. Another ND type move. As was previously stated, they are a #2 seed in this tourney.. No team gets more undeserved love that Duke, both from the media and from the officials.
If you want to play the we are so persecuted card, fine. But it's not like people dislike Duke for no good reason. I still haven't gotten over the way the 2001 title was handed to them.
I can't remember the last time any legit member of the media had Duke winning a championship in their brackets. That's including the Redick/Williams years when they were legitimately one of the best teams in the country.
And I fail to see how the 2001 title was handed to them. They had the best team in the nation that year. I'm still pissed about how the 2002 title was stolen from us, but you don't see me hating on Indiana.
Duke is #1 in the RPI with the #1 Strength of Schedule and winners of their conference tournament. That's why they are a 2 seed since you wanted the facts.Comment

Not Recently, Duke is over-rated because the Fine folks over at ESPN love to beat the ACC Drum constantly. So Obviously Duke and UNC are automatically considered some of the best teams in America at ESPN.More overrated on a consistent basis? Arizona, UCLA, and Kentucky just to name three teams.

I must admit though, When Dick Vitale said the Big East was a tougher conference than the ACC i nearly shat myself. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

LOL
UCLA has been to 3 straight Final Four's. I don't think they're an overrated program.
And saying Arizona is more hyped on a consistent basis than Duke is incredibly laughable.Last edited by WazzuRC; 03-21-2009, 11:36 PM.Comment

I agree that they all may be more talented teams than Duke, but Duke had a better resume than all those teams. They had the #1 RPI, the #1 S.O.S, and won the ACC Tournament.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

S.O.S and the ACC Tournament is good. RPI is meh to me, IMO.
I don't know, I know they won a lot of games and I know they won the Tournament, but their talent is not that of a top team anymore. I will say that some of their players are very good, I really like Henderson.
However, over the years they had Greg Paulus, JJ Redick and Sheldon Williams, all players that I hated very, very much. And their coach works the refs more than any in the country, which is also very annoying.

Re: The Official 2009 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
Why do people let ESPN dictate who they are going to hate? That stupid *** logic makes no sense, you wanna hate Duke for some legit reason then by all means keep the hate flowing but for anyone to say they hate Duke because ESPN covers them too much needs to examine what they base things on as it pertains to teams they like or hate. Did it ever occur to anyone that they cover the schools that bring in the ratings consistently? I would venture a guess that Duke and UNC bring in the ratings, there is a reason why these cinderella teams get very little to no coverage through the season, because they dont bring in the ratings. If Cleveland St could bring in the same ratings that a team like Duke or UNC does then they would get more coverage, would some of you hate them then as well? Like the other poster said, we havent done anything for 8 years, nobody at ESPN said we are going to win the tournament, I havent heard anyone say they play in the toughest conference on ESPN so is everything based on pre-season speculation then? Heading into the season what guarantees are there in college sports? Certain programs will always remain competitive, they may not have the horses to win it all but competitive none the less, and those schools are Duke, UNC, UCONN, Memphis, Kansas etc. and out of those teams they all get coverage. Not Recently, Duke is over-rated because the Fine folks over at ESPN love to beat the ACC Drum constantly. So Obviously Duke and UNC are automatically considered some of the best teams in America at ESPN.

I know Im fighting a never ending battle since so many hate Duke and wont change their tune but until we win something of significance I dont understand what there is to hate exactly.Comment

Fair enough, out of curiosity why do you hate Shelden exactly? I dont remember him talking a ton of smack or being completely disrespectful to anyone but I can fully understand why people would hate both Redick and Paulus. In terms of Coach K working the officials, wouldnt you rather have a coach that does that instead of sitting back and just watching the game? He isnt any different then an NBA coach who works the officials from the moment their plane touches down until the moment they leave whatever city they are in, if you hate him because he gets calls then hate the officials for blowing the whistle as all Coach K can do is work them and point out things, its still up to the officials to make the call or not.S.O.S and the ACC Tournament is good. Shelden was because the dude was a pain in the ***. He lacked so much talent that he just got on my nerves that people thought he was so good. He was like Tyler Hansbrough before Tyler Hansbrough. I did not hate him as much as the other two, especially JJ.Fair enough, out of curiosity why do you hate Shelden exactly? As for Coach K, I hate it that he does it and it works extremely well. When I watch Duke play, I have this thought in the back of my head that it's actually already fixed. I know it's a played argument but the officials really do seem to favor Duke a lot more than anyone else. They also get a lot of cheap, borderline calls that usually would be no calls. It is what it is. I'm pissed that Coach K has so much influence on the refs.Too Old To Game Club
