Bah. I'm not a Kellogg fan. Harlan & Raferty would be my dream team. but as long as Packer & Johnson isn't involved, I'm content.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Not that Nantz is terrible, but Nantz/Kellogg is the worst announcing crew out of the 4 currently broadcasting games in the regionals and they're the #1 announcing crew.
Packer was an idiot, but he was at least able to provide commentary within the flow of the game. Kellogg just randomly shouts stupid, witty sayings and tries too hard to impersonate Raftery.I write things on the Internet.

And he's paired with Jim Nantz.

Phew, what a great day!
Final Four #3 for UConn, Pitt loses AND the Big East still gets another team to the Final Four anyway.
Congrats to Nova! I feel kinda bad for Pitt, about as much as I humanly can since I despise them, especially seeing how hard Fields took the loss.
It's funny hearing Calhoun talk about this UConn team, I think he loves this team more than any he's ever had. They don't have the talent of the '99 or '04 team but they've been through everything the last few years and gutted it out to the Final Four without one of our best players in Dyson when pretty much everyone said they couldn't win this regional.
And seeing Kemba Walker absolutely take over the game and carry this veteran team was something I'll never forget. He's been up and down as a freshman, you've seen glimpses of why some people think he's the next Chris Paul and tonight he was the best player on the court. Without him UConn loses this game by double-digits.
It sounds cheesy, but at this point any more victories is gravy. The Final Four is what every UConn fan wanted for this group of kids. For everything they've been though; AJ with the brain issues and laptop mess, Robinson's leave of absense earlier this year, Thabeet's development from a guy who couldn't make a layup as a freshman to Big East Co-POY, Dyson's injury, everyone saying how this group had never won a post season game of any kind, to the 17-14 season in '06-'07 - the worst JC has ever had, and people wondering if UConn could return to their status among college basketball's elite. Special win for the program and this group of kids. Very proud of 'em. Hopefully they have two more wins under their belt but I honestly don't care.

Hate to give that clown credit, but Digger Phelps just made a good point.
Izzo was talking yesterday about how MSU is going to run and press with Louisville...is he looking to get embarassed again like he was against Memphis? If MSU tries to run with Louisville, they're going to lose by 25. The Spartans have athletes, but they've played Big Ten basketball all year. They're at their best in the half court at a slower pace. If they try to run, they're going to be out of their element and playing right into UL's hands, and UL will stomp them.Comment

I don't believe Izzo would give his real gameplan before the game. Maybe he is that crazy, but I'm sure what he has planned isn't as simple as that.Originally posted by VP Richard M. And I think Tom Izzo may have a little more expertise in coaching tournament games than Digger Phelps. So I'm going with Izzo on this one. 13-2 on Saturdays/Sundays.Quit making your stupid YouTube videos and start playing the game.Comment

No offense to Louisville as I think they are going to win the National Title but they are not as good as Memphis was nor do they have anyone even close to Derrick Rose in their back court. I also think this MSU team is quite a bit better than last year's.
I'm kinda lukewarm on Kalin Lucas but if you have athletic enough guards then Louisville's press isn't anything to be afraid of as UConn showed in their meeting when it was pretty much a layup drill for the first half before Pitino called off the pressure."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Well after last night I can breathe easy again. As long as Pitt doesn't make the Final Four, I'm good. LOL I'm pulling for Villanova now although I wouldn't mind seeing Louisville win it either. If it weren't for Jim Calhoun, I wouldn't even mind seeing UConn win just because they are from the Big East. His arrogance just chafes my *** though so cheering for them is just something I don't see myself doing.Comment

Sure - Villanova, Louisville and UConn are Pitt's rivals during Big East play, but if all 3 of them go to the Final Four and the National Championship game is Louisville/UConn vs. Villanova, Pitt will benefit from this exposure (along with every other Big East team, including WVU). I guess I could see you not rooting for Pitt, since we are your arch-rivals. But - it won't help WVU one but if Louisville loses to Michigan State today and it eventually ends up with a Michigan State-UNC/OK final (via Nova and UConn losses).
For a fan of another Big East team, the above scenario with a Big East washout would be a classic example of a "pyrrhic victory" - as you would be "happy" at the Big East (and your team WVU by extension) losing out on this amazing chance to go down in history.Last edited by Steelerfan2k1; 03-29-2009, 02:07 PM.Comment
