    Re: 2010 Recruiting Discussion Thread

Villanova got a commit from 4* center Markus Kennedy. Jay is finally getting GOOD big dudes to complement the star guards.

So, two commits so far in Kennedy and Montverde, Fl. 4* small forward James Bell.

Congrats to Memphis! Will Barton and his brother Antonio Barton committed to Memphis last night. This is a HUGE get for Pastner and Memphis. Every recruiting analyst thought Barton was a lock for UK. Guess they were wrong...

I expect us to go after Doron Lamb now....

Word is that Cal's dirty recruiting towards Pastner over Bledsoe has made Pastner make this recruiting thing personal. Should be interesting to watch. Cal's best attribute is that he outworks most in this country. Pastner might be the only one who actually works harder.

Cal may have played dirty to get Bledsoe, I really have no idea, but there were comments from Bledsoe saying he felt like he was being bs'ed to by Pastner and insinuating that Pastner was feeding a bunch of crap about calipari. Maybe Pastner did it because Cal was already playing dirty, again I have no idea, but he may have started this "personal" thing himself.

Either way, I have to give Pastner credit for getting Barton. Major coup for him to pull what every analyst thought was UK's first 2010 commitment away from Cal...however it was done.

Just passing along what I'm hearing. Cal also is telling recruits that both are after that the NCAA will be coming down hard on Memphis. Thought that was kind of ironic.

I respect what you have to say and I know you don't just say stuff to get a rise out of people. I also know you have some connections so what you said, I am not doubting at all. Just saying what I had heard as well, but I admit to not being connected.

But I do not understand what you are saying in the second sentence. Either you missed a word, that I can't figure out, or I am just so tired that my comprehension has sailed.

He's telling the recruits that both UK and Memphis are after for 2010 that Memphis will probably get hit with sanctions. That is what I find ironic. It would be like Sampson telling recruits, "Hey, don't go to Oklahoma they will be on probation".

It seems that Cal is actually taken aback that the city of Memphis has turned on him, hence all this stuff. He really thought we would just hire Tony Barbee on his request. For some reason, he thinks that he made the Memphis program, forgetting that we did have some sucess before him. He did a great job the last 4 years though.

Word on the street is that Dominque Ferguson is a Florida lean and that Kyrie Irving may be favoring Indiana. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Most analysts think that Irving is a IU lean. I have heard that Ferguson likes UF but he is really wide open still.

Kyrie Irving is always mentioning Indiana as one of his top schools in every article I have read. He seems to have built a really strong relationship with Coach Crean and assistant coach and fellow jersey boy Roshown McLeod. Also, Irving has said he wants to be a journalism major and IU has a pretty good journalism school. There was a rumor on IU message boards a couple days ago that Irving committed to IU but, Irving debunked those claims on his twitter page. Irving has said all along he is going to take all of his official visits before deciding on a school and this past weekend he took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M and a couple weekends before that to UCONN. So, there's still a ways to go in the recruitment of Irving but, I like the position that IU is in right now.

Duke's class is looking pretty good so far:

COMMITTED/NOT YET SIGNED Pos Stars Ht Wt RR Video Hometown
Andre Dawkins SG 6-4 190 ***** Chesapeake, VA
Joshua Hairston PF 6-8 195 **** Spotsylvania, VA
Tyler Thornton PG 6-2 180 *** Washington, DC

Plus Seth Curry will be eligible. I'm a little worried Hairston won't be the answer to our post problems, so I hope K is recruiting some big guys. I know he's going after Barnes, Knight, and Irving (and I think we get Barnes, but not the other two), but I haven't heard any big men recruits mentioned.

Duke has had good luck with VA players. Grant Hill and JJ.

Michigan picked up their second commit for 2010 in Tim Hardaway Jr from Village of Palmetto Bay (FL). If we could now just land Zeigler this will be a really nice class along with Evan Smotrycz and Hardaway.
