Doing anything other than a bracket?

Obviously bracket pools are the most popular form of "gambling" during the NCAA tournament, but I was wondering if anyone else does any other pools/games for it.

This year I'm doing something interesting with my one with my friend and a bunch of other people. Basically 16 people start out with $25 to spend. All the teams are put into a hat, and a team is drawn, then we go around in a circle and bid on each team in an auction-like thing. You could either go for a high seed team and put $25 on Kansas, for example, or spread it around and get a bunch of teams (ex. $5 for Georgetown, $10 for Baylor, etc.). You get, IIRC, $2 for each 1st round win your team(s) have, $4 for each 2nd round win, $8 for Sweet 16, $18 for Elite 8, $25 for Final Four and $40 for the national champion. You collect for each round, so if one of your teams wins the title, you win $100. It's a pretty cool idea and I'm excited to see how it goes.

Tourney squares, same idea as Super Bowl squares but way more exciting since there are SO many games constantly going on the first two days plus every number is pretty much equal unlike with football where you want 0, 1, 4, 7 the most. You can win some $ for every single game being played. It's final score only, no half time score.

I forget what the payouts are exactly but they increase each round, as does the buy-in per square each weekend.

Re: Doing anything other than a bracket?

        Did alright for myself...got:

        Baylor for $18.00
        Texas for $3.25
        UTEP for $2.00
        Washington for $1.00
        Siena for $0.75

As long as UTEP/Siena/Washington win a game, I make money on them, and I expect big things out of Baylor and Texas.

I don't know the name of it, but it's where you pick one player from each of the 16 seeds. Whoever has the highest point total at the end of the tournament wins.

          Here's my 16:
          1. John Wall - UK

          2. Evan Turner - OSU

          3. Ashton Gibbs - Pittsburgh

          4. Trevon Hughes - Wisconsin

          5. Gordon Hayward - Butler

          6. Luke Harangody – Notre Dame

          7. Kevin Anderson - Richmond

          8. Matt Bouldin - Gonzaga

          9. Al-Farouq Aminu – Wake Forest

          10. Gani Lawal – Georgia Tech

          11. Quincy Pondexter - Washington

          12. Ryan Wittman - Cornell

          13. Aubrey Coleman - Houston

          14. Anthony Johnson - Montana

          15. Reggie Holmes – Morgan State

          16. Marqus Blakeley - Vermont

Cool - I like the round robin and the props ideas. Brackets are boring if you wager on a regular basis.

I have consolidate a massive amount of statistics on each match up to see where gaps exist and uncover upset potential that may be overlooked. If anyone is interested. Trying to sell the research for $5.
