Some positives out of today: Washington and Baylor winning got me up to $16 in our pool, so as long as one or the other wins next round, I make a profit of at least $1. Success.

I'm late, but ******* that Northern Iowa game was awesome. I was at a bar and when Farokhmanesh hit that 3 everyone went crazy. I knew he would eventually hit a big one like he did in the first round.
Jimmer and BYU couldn't get it done though, maybe next year.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Random thoughts from one hell of a Day 1 of Round 2:
-In the Thesaurus, if you look up "Balls" there's a picture of Ali Faroukmanesh (or however you spell it)
-I had Kansas winning it all, like most people. I couldn't be happier that I was wrong. I love seeing these mid-majors get their moment. Kansas will be back, they'll win more championships, but on this day the mid-major took them down and I loved every second of it.
-I had Murray St. beating Butler. I might've pegged that, too, if it weren't for a botched traveling call and the idiocy of whoever had the ball at the end. I feel like if N. Iowa didn't do what it did, we'd be spending today talking about the Butler dude traveling before he called that timeout in the corner.
-God those night games sucked.
-Kentucky is head and shoulders above everybody else in this tournament right now. I might be reading too much into a win over lowly Wake Forest, but I don't remember being that impressed by a team in a long time. I was a doubter, i'm not anymore. With Kansas gone, I don't see an obstacle for the Cats.
-I wouldn't be completely surprised anymore to see Washington in the Elite 8.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Looking back at that Kansas-UNI game, something just occurred to me: why didn't Kansas start full-court pressing earlier? Northern Iowa looks horrible at breaking the press, and I'm not just saying that based on the last couple of minutes of the game. Remember the UNLV game, how much trouble they had when the Rebels trapped them?
Anyways, if I'm Maryland or Michigan State, I would full-court press the living hell out of them.
There was probably some why didnt you press earlier question and here was the response:
“It’s hard to press a team,” Self explained later, “when you have six fouls in the first half and you want to play your big fella and they’re the best free-throw-shooting team in the country. … That took away some of our aggressiveness, probably changing the defense in the first half.”
I was wondering earlier why he didn't press sooner but I can see what his logic was in the 1st half especially since Aldrich is a halfcourt type of player.

I just got home from OKC and boy did that game suck.
As bad as KU has looked at times this year, I don't think I've seen them come out so disinterested in the game. Short of Tyrel Reed it seemed like everyone wanted to be anywhere but on the court. Not much to add that I'm sure everyone else hasn't already said. Oh well, it will make it easier for me to enjoy the rest of the tournament, as strange as that might sound.
And just in case anyone is interested the only thing worse than seeing your #1 overall seed team lose in the second round, is seeing your #1 overall seed team lose in the second round and coming home to 7" of snow. At least I didn't have to drive home.Comment

I was wondering why KU didn't come out in a FCP to start the game. Obviously they don't press much but with as bad as UNI looked against UNLV I was expecting more of it. I guess that's why I don't get paid the big bucks.Comment

Other than taking 90 minutes longer to get home than it did to get there it wasn't all that bad. Or at least my friend who was driving didn't complain about things, he just took it a little slower. Probably helps that 99.99% of the roads between my house and the Ford Center are highway.Comment

I'm still in disbelief that Northern Iowa won. Kansas was so deep in everything you need to have to be a title contender. Depth, Talent, Experience, and leadership. I guess it just goes to show you anyone is susceptible to losing one game, even the Giants like Kansas. It just gets weird at this time of year, How the hell does a team like Kansas get knocked off by this team? With this much on the line it's just mind boggling. Northern Iowa found a new gear or Kansas just choked horribly.
Put me in the "what the hell is wrong with you class" but part of me hates seeing Kansas knocked off, I like to see the best teams in the Tourney stick around, I just hope NI can keep the Cinderella moments going. And it wasn't just a lucky punch, We'll see. Either way this is a legendary win for the Mid-Majors and a moment that NI will never forget, and one that will live in infamy regarding Kansas and their fanbase.Comment

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
Four out of the top eight players on the team were sophomores or younger, and three of the remaining four were juniors/redshirt juniors who played less than 8 minutes a game, which were mostly mop-up minutes with the blowouts the 07/08 team had, their freshman year.
I'm sure that sounds like an excuse, but it's really not meant to be one. There is no excuse for the way they played Saturday, or the rest of the season for that matter.
Just my worthless ¥1.81 on the experience part.
The same way they lost to a depleted Tennessee team and ended up needing OT against a sub .500 Colorado team that was missing the Big 12 freshman of the year. For whatever reason this team never seemed to "get it" and they played much of the season the same way they did tonight.Comment

Syracuse and Duke better have took note that if you come out flat early, and let these teams stick around you have a fight on your hands and could be staring at a early NCAA Tournament exit. UK looked awesome against Wake, but Wake shouldn't have run with UK. They don't have the shooters *Stewart/Harris are hot and cold*, Ish Smith can't pull up and drain threes nor shoot ft's very well if he gets hacked he's like a 47% ft shooter which is god awful for anyone, much less your PG. Cornell or Wisky could give UK problems though. This tournament is UK's at the moment, but it was KU's too so don't go crowning anybody just yet. And HA! @ Nova. Taylor King that's karma for refusing a drug test *one of the reasons K told you to get the heck outta Durham*, and for the refs totally screwing Robert Morris on Thur. The Big East is falling flat on their faces in this tournament.President of the Devils Den

I was wondering why Taylor King transferred, other than he was horrible. Probably one of my least favorite college basketball players ever. Any other reason Diddy?
