Man if Alabama could snag this kid it'd be amazing. He already UNC and UCLA so this kid has been offered by every elite program.

Austin Rivers, Quincy Miller, and Deuce Bello are all at Duke for the championship banquet tonight. Not sure if we're pursuing Bello that much, but Miller and Rivers are far and away our top 2 targets.

I think you got Rivers in the bag. Miller will be a battle with several schools but I think it will come down to UK and Duke. He is a tremendous talent.

                Re: 2011 Recruiting Discussion Thread

Can't believe Teague picked UK. Thought for sure he was UofL bound with all of his connections: father played college ball for Pitino, one his coaches was hired by UofL, etc.

But then again....maybe I shouldn't have been so shocked. Let's face it - Calipari's system and recent history with point guards trumped family loyalty in this battle. Pitino's recent history with Sosa, McGee, etc. didn't help matters either. Kids today have three letters on their mind: N-B-A. Cal has proven the last three years (soon to be four with Brandon Knight) that he is better than Pitino at sending point guards to the league.

Come to think of it, Pitino has never coached a dominant point guard. Reece Gaines is the only player who I can think of who could even be considered a college "star" but then again he was a bust in the NBA. At UK Ricky had Sean Woods, Travis Ford, Anthony Epps, and Wayne Turner...none of those guys were dominant players.

Louisville fans are (understandably) upset tonight...but really, we all probably should have seen this one coming.

I think all it means is that Calipari is a better recruiter. The PG's he recruits don't need to be "sent" to the NBA, they're pro-ready before they ever step foot on UK's campus. Pitino has never signed a point guard even close to the talent level of Calipari's last four PG signings.

It's a trend that will go on for a long time and no one should be surprised. If you're a one-n-done point guard you go to Kentucky because the DDM lets you showcase your skills and Calipari is a player's coach. The UK name-brand is just icing on the cake.

While I agree with nearly everything you said, I think there is a misperception that calipari doesn't develop players. Sure rose, Evans, wall and cousins could have went straight to the NBA but that doesn't mean Cal didn't develop them further and prepare them. Several times this year and even at the press conference yesterday, wall has spoken about how much Cal has taught him and made him a better player. A couple of months ago wall stated how he thought he had peaked in high school and spoke about how Cal helped him make great strides in his game. Cousins was another player, granted at a different position, that showed remarkable improvement from the beginning of the year.

As do all the "great" players he has signed.

Off the top of my head I can think of:

                              Sebastian Telfair
                              Amir Johnson

                              During his time at Louisville.
