Re: What's the biggest first round upset you ever picked in your bracket?
Sadly it applies to Big Ten basketball to, look no further than their game last week against Penn State, Wisconsin is a good defensive team but a 36-33 game isn't that low scoring based on defense.
Obviously Wisconsin doesn't go out and put up 33 point performances often but they can be prone to offensive slumps.Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
NFL- Cleveland Browns
MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
NBA- Boston Celtics
NHL- Chicago Blackhawks

Re: What's the biggest first round upset you ever picked in your bracket?
3-14 game Nebraska losing to Xavier, 1991 I believe. And then that Iowa game a few years ago, a 3-14 game. Best upset pick I saw was my friend picking Santa Clara over Arizona in like 92, he got 31 of 32 right that year in the first round (only missing Georgia Tech, a 4 seed losing to a 13 seed).
Let me go check my dates/seeds.......ok it was 1993 for Santa Clara, but my seeds were correct.Comment

I was only about 5 years old when that Santa Clara game happened and didn't start watching college basketball till I was about 8 so I don't remember it, but I did watch it on ESPN Classic about 4 or 5 years ago and that was just crazy. I cannot believe Arizona gave up like a 20 point lead to those guys. And that last shot by Stoudamire was ridiculous. Why did he fling his whole body into it like that? He had time to take a normal 3 pointer.Comment

The upsets I have this year (not counting 8/9 games):
(13) Belmont over (4) Wisconsin
(12) Richmond over (5) Vanderbilt
(11) Gonzaga over (6) St. John's
(11) Marquette over (6) Xavier
(11) Missouri over (6) Cincinnati
(10) Florida State over (7) Texas A&M
(10) Penn State over (7) Temple
(10) Michigan State over (7) UCLA
I'm tempted to pick Memphis over Arizona, but I can't pull the trigger.Comment

NeverGraduate, I'm very worried about that Louisville-Morehead State game. A lot of people are overlooking it. I picked Louisville but I think they're gonna be in for a fight.
JJLinn, I agree with Memphis-Arizona. I didn't pick it, but I know Arizona is very overrated. I'd even pick a team like Temple to beat them.
My upset of the tournament is 15 UC Santa Barbara over 2 Florida.
I only picked it in 4-5 of my brackets but I think Florida is in for an early exit this tournament. It's highly unlikely they lose there but I do have them getting bounced by UCLA in the 2nd Round in my money bracket.Comment

That's probably the best upset I've called too. I had Davidson beating Wisky a couple years ago with Stephen Curry too.
I've actually had great success picking upsets the last 2-3 years, it's the sweet sixteen where everything usually falls apart for me.Comment

Re: What's the biggest first round upset you ever picked in your bracket?
I usually have one outlandish pick that kills me. Recent examples include:
-Having Gonzaga in the Final Four in 2009
-Having Texas in the Elite Eight in 2010
I really wish ESPN would let you access past brackets. I'd love to see how I picked back in the day.
EDIT: Now that I think of it, I specifically remember picking (14) Central Connecticut over (3) Pittsburgh in 2002...partly because they were called the Blue DevilsLast edited by BunnyHardaway; 03-16-2011, 04:27 PM.Comment

Speaking of 2002, who remembers that Holy Cross-Kansas game?
Man.... for a second I thought that was going to be the first 1-16 upset ever.Comment

Re: What's the biggest first round upset you ever picked in your bracket?
Yeah and Albany had that guard Wilson from the Bronx who was a smooth player. He should have just jacked up 3's and extended that lead. That got me really mad. UConn didn't deserve that game, they were way overrated. Williams wasn't a superb PG and Rudy Gay never ever lived up to his McDonald's All American billing. He must have shot less than 30% from the field at UConn cause it seemed like he missed just about everything.Comment
