We can't go pulling out the "If Player A stayed four years" card...

What would Rose, Durant, Griffin, etc done if they stayed four years? Hell, Davis would be splitting time with Cousins if we were still in the era of players staying.

We aren't debating the merits of pro potential or hypotheticals, just how good the player was while in college. Davis has infinitely more potential than Hansbrough but they aren't in the same league as scorers in college.

Sure, Davis will probably develop into a very good scorer in the NBA but in his one year at UK he was not a great offensive player and it had nothing to do with the load needing to be shared. When he had to create his own shot it was a crapshoot, as it is with pretty much every young big man. Again, not a knock on Davis, just saying that it's not right to put him in the same class offensively as Hansbrough.

This is true. But I think you also have to consider that because Davis was so tall AND athletic, he made plays on a normal basis that TH could never do. Sure, he didn't have the brute force that TH had, but he had the extreme athleticism. It's obvious to anyone that TH had a better offensive game, so don't get me wrong. But Davis' wasn't that bad either. He had a great hook shot and he could receive a lob as well as anyone has in a decade or more.

But the thing to add to that is his defense. By him altering or blocking shots, many times it turned into a + in points. So not only did he keep the other team from scoring, 60% of his blocks and countless alterations allowed his team to score an additional 2 or 3 points. That's a 4-5 point swing.

I get that everyone looks at offense as the benchmark, and I do too most of the time. But when you have a special defensive player, like a once in a decade type player, you have to consider the effect the defense had as well. Plus Davis was no slouch on offense...just not has good as TH.

Ok, so if we compare their two freshman seasons together from an offensive standpoint, there really isn't a huge discrepancy between them. FG% wise Davis was techinally better. However, Hansborough scored more ppg and played in fewer games that year.. Comparing them there isn't a huge difference though.

I can understand the argument that Hansborough had a better all around offensive game then Davis. But, I'm still not convinced that we saw Davis's full repertoire. AD really didn't have that many one one situations this year. I'd say most of his scoring came from lobs and putbacks.

So ok, if were going by who had a more dominant season their first year offensively,and throwing out hypotheticals, then yes I'd go with Hansborough.

My argument was that Davis could be as dominant as Tyler was offensively, if he needed to be that guy, but he didn't. He played his role to a T and was pretty damn efficient from the floor when needed, and while his jumpshot was not very efficient statistically, it looked like he was starting to get comfortable with it at the end of the season.

Hansborough worked harder for his points then anyone I have ever seen. In college it seemed like he just forced shots, and they dropped more often then not, he was a fantastic college player offensively though, and it seemed like he continued to add to his arsenal of moves every year, its also a testament of how he played with what little talent he had, not that he was an invalid athletically, but compared to alot of guys Psycho T just was not as athletic, but he made up for it with heart and dedication.

So I give yall Hansborough, but I'll still argue we never saw everything AD had to offer, because Kentucky was so efficient in so many other areas. Is that fair to say?
