I think that's a big indication of the difference this year with Roy Williams on board. The good teams have to pull off games like this, but they also have to make sure they don't get into too many situations where they are loosing to Cleveland State with 4 minutes left.

I personally never said that. I expect Duke to be in close games cause they aren't that good.
UNC problems came from 2 areas: Free throw shooting & lack of it from Melvin Scott. If Melvin made just a third of his attempts, the game wouldn't have been close. But you've gotta expect droughts from individual players. Consistently bad FT shooting shouldn't be expected. But that seems to be a recurring theme for Roy's teams. Gotta get that shored up.
I haven't gone to InsideCarolina yet. Has any explanation been given for McCants not playing in the final minutes of the 1st half?
Final note: the Vikings played a good game. They caught UNC on a bad day & almost took advantage. If they had shot better to start the game, UNC would have an L, no doubt.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Wow
Roy was happy with McCants' defense and shot selection in the first half.
He stepped up in the second half with some big points and rebounds though. I think he's getting the message.Comment

Re: Wow
The team rebounded well. It was the shooting that stunk.
Gotta amend my earlier comments. Scott only took 9 shots. It just seemed like alot more w/so many bricks.-August 17, 1960Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

did i not say in the very first post that i was ragging on duke for being in a close game and now i can't????????
anyway... i think it was a whole mix of things going against us in the game... manuel got hurt... may got foul trouble... mccants even though he had close to 20 points (if not 20) had an offnight... The Vikings had EVERYTHING going there way... i mean come on the big dude had his free throw bounce off the top of the backboard and in... and the other dude banked in a three right before halftime... so it shows with all that going against us we could still pull out the W... HAVE to shoot and play better against Illinois though...Go Heels!
