Great win by the Noles! I'm going to the Wake Forest game on Sunday, but I was sitting at home thinking I should've gone to THIS one! What a shot by Galloway!

But come Feb 5th i'm not gonna be worried, #1 it's in Chapel Hill, #2 Roy William's fist home game against Duke, it would take an absolute moron to say UNC isn't gonna be ready to play. I think they'll win that one. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's a different outcome in Cameron. As long as UNC cuts down the nets in Greensboro and San Antonio i'll be happy.

keep thinking that. all i heard was UNC was back yeah back in the cellar. have fun against the wahoos feb 5th is fast approaching and you guys are heading in the wrong direction.President of the Devils Den

Re: UNC vs FSU
I agree with that Wulfpack. Let's not forget that the 97 team started 0-3 in ACC play, and won the conference tourney and went to the Final Four. This team has had similar results to that one in 96-97.
Here's a post from IC, that sums it up nicely:
</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
The 1996-97 Final Four team blew a 22-point second half lead to Maryland, were outscored 41-9 down the stretch and lost, 85-75. In fact, there are lot of similarities between this year's team and the 1996-97 team at this point in the season..........
1996-97 SEASON
Record after 15 games: 11-4
ACC record at that point: 2-3 (with 2 road losses to Wake Forest and Virginia.......started ACC play with 3 straight losses)
Out-of-conference loss: Arizona
Embarrassing collapse: blew 22-point second half lead at home to Maryland and lost 85-75 (Shammond Williams set school record with 14 3-pt. attempts - made 5)
2003-04 SEASON
Record after 15 games: 11-4
ACC record at that point: 1-3 (with 2 road losses to Maryland and Florida State)
Out-of-conference loss: Kentucky
Embarrassing collapse: blew 24-point lead on the road to FSU and lost 90-81 in overtime (Rashad McCants tied school record with 14 3-pt. attempts - made 6)
The 1996-97 UNC team completed the first half of the ACC season with a 3-5 league record and then went on a tear, winning 11 straight conference games (16 straight overall), finished 11-5 in the ACC regular season (good for 2nd place behind Duke), and won the ACC Tournament championship in Greensboro. The team made it to the Final Four in Indianapolis, losing in the national semifinals to the eventual national champion - the Arizona Wildcats. Their final overall record was 28-7.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Whether this team can duplicate those results will be seen. I think they have the potential to do it.Comment

Re: UNC vs FSU
And you forgot to mention a first year coach for both teams. Guthridge(then) and Roy(now). I still do not think Carolina will go deep with the lack of depth. Especially in tourney time with the 2 day turnaround between 1st and 2nd rounds and then again between Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Of course at the same time it all could depend on match ups. Unless something shocking happens they should advance to the Sweet 16 but what happens after, all depends on match ups. They played with Kentucky b/c UK has the same depth problem. UNC should have won that game. UCONN I also think has some depth issues possibly. The rotation after the first 6 is still in question. Can it be upgraded by tourney time for these teams? Yes! Will it? Ask me in March.S.O.S Crew

Re: UNC vs FSU
That was actually Dean's last season as coach, Guthridge took over the next season.
I think the depth issue is a little overrated. Carolina goes 7 deep. There aren't many teams in the country that have depth as a strength. Heck, duke only plays 7 guys, and they're ranked #1 right now.Comment
