UNC is down 35-40 at the half to Cuse. What's wrong with Marcus Paige this year?

      Plantar Fasciitis.

He had a good second half though. But, Britt was the X Factor.

        Recap of Last Night:
UNC survives at home against Syracuse even with Christmas and Cooney scoring 20 plus points a piece.
Iowa State survives a late surge by Texas.

I thought the UNC Syracuse game was very well played last night. It was enjoyable to see a game get into the high 70s and low 80s. Nate Britt shot the ball well last night; which is what UNC needs given that they are so dependent on Paige to shoot well to help space the floor.

I didn't watch a ton of the 2nd half of the Iowa State Texas game but it looks like Texas doesn't have it's identity yet. They haven't figured out their rotation yet since they have a bunch of guys they want to play but can't play them in their natural position.

        What's on tap for tonight:
Big A-10 Battle with George Washington going to VCU.
In the Big 12, West Virginia travels to Kansas State and Baylor travels to Oklahoma State.
Xavier travels to Georgetown with Georgetown looking to avenge it's New Years eve loss in Cincinnati.
In the SEC, Tennessee travels to Arkansas and Florida goes to Alabama seeking a much needed victory.
Tulsa looks to stay perfect in the American on the road at Tulane, Nebraska travels to Michigan and Wyoming looks for a win at Utah State.

Michigan up 23-18 at the half at home against Nebraska. I swear, college basketball is hitting an all-time low in watchability. A lot of these games are a joke.

Fully expected 'Bama to win on a 3 at the end…I don't understand why Florida can't put together a full game. At Kansas they were up by around 18 at the half and played like crap in the 2nd half…that is the general blueprint this year. Tonight, up 13 at the half and yet only score 15 points in the 2nd half. Frustrating team to watch, no doubt.

                  Recap of Last Night:
VCU routs George Washington in the 2nd half and continues to separate themselves from rest of the A-10. When VCU plays Dayton in the future that will be a very interesting matchup.
Xavier completes a regular season sweep on Georgetown with a double digit victory at the Verizon Center.
West Virginia is gets a very good under the radar road win at Kansas State.
Oklahoma State takes care of business at home against Baylor.

Michigan wins at home in a ugly contest against Nebraska.
In the SEC, Texas A&M and Florida win on the road while Georgia and Arkansas take care of business at home.
Tulsa stays perfect in the American with a road win at Tulane and Wyoming loses at Utah State in Mountain West action; showing again that road conference wins aren't as easy as they seem.

                  On Tap for Tonight:
Duke travels to South Bend in a top 10 matchup, 730 PM ET on ESPN2.
Indiana travels to in-state rival Purdue at 9 ET on the BTN.
Seton Hall travels to Marquette hoping to stop their recent skid on FS1 at 7 ET followed by St. John's going to Creighton.
Louisville goes to Boston College and NC State looks to rebound at home against Clemson after losing a heartbreaker to Notre Dame on Sunday.

And a lot of other games that I don't have the time right now to type about.

While I can't pinpoint one specific reason for the low scoring games, I've noticed more and more that teams have taken the air out of the ball on offense. I don't mean teams that run offense for an entire 35 second clock. I'm talking about teams that never try an initial push of the ball off a rebound or turnover and then take 10 to 12 seconds to get across half-court and start the initial action of their play call or set. It's an issue that gets exposed more in the NBA because if you waste 10 seconds not initiating your offense, you only have 12 to 14 seconds left on the shot clock but in college you're around 23 to 25 seconds left.

There are other issues with scoring but I don't know how to pinpoint it to one reason. Have defenses gotten smarter? Do players not practice the right shot? Do officials let too much go? I'm not sure.

Duke and Notre Dame was actually a very entertaining game of college basketball. Jerian Gant was awesome with 23 points 12 assist and 6 boards. Oakafor was phenomonal again with 22 and 17. Duke being 10 of 20 from the free throw did them in.

It was a great game to watch. Two very good offensive teams with both teams having their best players playing well; the ball movement was good and shot making from Grant, Connaughton and Cook was very good. The ACC and the Big 12 have been very entertaining to watch, Duke already has 3 conference losses and we are just about halfway through conference play.
