I get sooooooo sick of Coach Cal saying "but they're 18 & 19 year olds!" No crap. Quit using it as an excuse if that's how you want your roster built. Don't be upset and surprised when savvy 3 & 4 year vets exploit that inexperience. Josh Gasser has played in 147 college games. He's ready. Wall, Bledsoe and Cousins could also have made this choice, but chose not to (and Cal expected it).

That's maybe what upsets me most about Cal getting into the Hall and not Bo. Bo coaches...Cal recruits.

For all the talent Cal has had (even at the time they were in college), has has drastically underachieved.
For all the talent Bo has had (what we in WI like to call Culver's All-American's--burger chain started in southern WI), he has drastically overachieved.

Bo is 10-2 in Final Fours in his lifetime (D3 and D1), and Cal get the nod...smh.
So because Calipari has had an influx of high level talent for the past 6 years, of his 20+ year career, that means he can't coach and doesn't belong in the HOF? He has drastically underachieved? Yes, tons of YOUNG talent, but not tons of EXPERIENCED talent.

          Let's see:

          2009/2010 - Elite Eight
          2010/2011 - Final Four
          2011/2012 - National Championship
2012/2013 - NIT (lost right away)
          2013/2014 - Runner Up
          2014/2015 - Final Four

I can't see how anyone can say that is underachieving. Yes, Cal has had a lot of talent but it is mostly freshmen talent which you should know means they aren't near their potential yet. The NIT year would have been an NCAA year (likely no better than round of 32 or Sweet 16) if Noel doesn't get injured. This year they went 38-0 before losing to you guys. How could his time at UK even be remotely considered as underachieving?

Also, he says they are only "18 or 19 years old" so much for several reasons. One, it helps to keep the pressure off the 18/19 year olds. When people think about that, they tend to back off a little. Two, because he has been so successful in most people's eyes (not yours obviously), this is a reminder to the 16/17 year old high school students that they can be successful in one year of college even at a young age.

Calipari is clearly NOT the best x's and o'x coach out there. He is what I would consider average although he usually makes good half time adjustments. But that isn't the only thing that makes a coach, a coach. He is the best recruiter, probably the best or one of the best motivators and clearly the best manager of egos. Bo Ryan is a heck of a coach but I would imagine there aren't many in the HOF with his record and no titles. There may be, but I bet there aren't many. If he can win tonight, he is likely a lock.

But to say Cal is not a good coach (in the full definition of one) is just silly and a "haters" type comment. Some of the most respected coaches in the game say he doesn't get the credit he deserves (Izzo and Coach K to name a couple). What he did at UMASS and Memphis was incredible when you consider those teams didn't get the elite players like he does at UK. At least not anywhere near as many.

You guys won, be happy. I hope you win tonight too.

BTW, NEWS FLASH: It clearly isn't easy to win national championships.

I just realized this got way off the topic at hand. If someone wants to continue the conversation please either reply with a new thread or in a more relevant thread.

            My apologies everyone.

I agree, clearly Calipari isn't a bad coach, and I hate the guy, because I think he has gotten away with some shaddy doings over the years, but he does deserve some credit for what he has achieved.

People got to remember these are young kids he is trying to win with and the roster turnover that he deals with yearly.

I wouldn't call him a great coach, but he isn't bad either, I think where he excels outside of being a savy recruiter, if its all legal that is, is he is very good motivator, and gets kids to play hard.

His in game decisions is where Cal lacks skill, like greats like Coach K, Knight, D Smith, etc.

I compare Calipari to that of Dusty Baker to a extent, except Id give Cal the edge in his coaching ability to Dusty's managing ability, lol. Both guys do a good job of getting kids to play hard, and know the game, but lack that of the all time greats in their fields, and why they seem to fail when the stakes get higher.

well not a great comparison, probably more of a insult to Cal,lol. They both seemingly have had a few really good teams seemingly come up short.

I'm incredulously biased, but if the Badgers win, lose or draw, I'm proud of them playing for the championship.

I don't think many people picked them for the final game.

I said Saturday night, if the Badgers lose tonight, their title game was Saturday night.

Even my father-in-law, who is a Nebraska fan, said, if the Badgers win tonight, people in other the conferences can be silenced for a year because the Big 10 won in football and now, maybe hoops. lol

I don't think it was a big deal in the since that something should happen to him by the school or even if it wasn't this time of the year and they had another game that he should have to sit out or anything but I think it was a big enough deal to where he shouldn't have said that up there at the press conference representing his school, team and coaches with a mic right there in front of him...to me it was a really stupid thing to do. (if that makes since)

If it was caught on some cell phone in the hall way then that wouldn't be as bad but like I said he's up there in a public forum representing his school. Also if Deeken, Kaminsky or any player had said something like that after a loss about Harris or any other player for UK it would be a huge deal.

Also this is all coming from someone who doesn't like the use of the word no matter if it ends with A or R from anybody so there's that. All that being said I heard Harris called him, manned up and apologized.... they squashed it right after he said it and that's what's most important. He seems like a good kid that just let his emotions get the best of him and it happens...just giving my opinion on it.

I agree. Now days anyone in the public eye has to watch what they say, cause it might come back to bite them. As much as I dislike Kentucky, I don't think either Harrison twin is a bad kid, probably just in the heat of the moment something stupid comes out, but like you said other way around and this would be a bigger deal than it is now.

I know I have in frustration did a few things over the years I wish I hadn't, never with words, but in my actions I took out frustration on someone who didn't really deserve it.

Not necessarily if it was the other way around. Kaminsky wouldnt have used that word. He woulda used dude or b**** or pick any other word but in the way Harrison said it and meant it. It would be translated into "f that b****" and if the media would have made it a big deal then it would've been the same way now bc they would be portraying kaminsky as sore loser. The sad part is even as a UK fan I'm pulling for duke in this one, I'm a younger UK fan so I don't have any reason to hate duke. I think Wisconsin is living on borrowed time after both UNC and UK both gave you the game by playing not to lose. Good thing Coach k isn't that stupid. Plus I'm sick of kaminsky the dude whines more than the Harrison twins combined when there are fouls called and that's saying something. Plus the dude is the Manu of college athletics when it comes to flopping.

Maybe your missing the point...we're saying if those exact words Harris used were used by a Wis player talking about a UK player it would be a huge deal. Not if a Wis player would have changed it up...

...but at any rate if Kaminsky or Dekker get in foul trouble early which I think will happen I may turn this game off if it looks like Duke will run away with it. Can't deal with seeing them win the title..ugh

Love the simplicity and pageantry of the Anthem tonight. Good start.

...but at any rate if Kaminsky or Dekker get in foul trouble early which I think will happen I may turn this game off if it looks like Duke will run away with it. Can't deal with seeing them win the title..ugh

Some our missing the point on it, but no need to get to deep into hear on this site, so I will leave it alone.

I actually see Wisconsin winning , I see a close game, but think Wisconsin has too much to llose to Duke twice in 1 season, but never can count out Coach K.

If Wisconsin could get Okafor in foul trouble they could win easily imo, but considering Okafor don't really put much effort into defense he wont get into foul trouble, lol.

Nat Championship is always exciting, but in some ways its sad because College basketball is over with after tonight. I like NBA but Ill take CBB over NBA anyday.
