      Re: 2017 Recruiting Thread

Five-star small forward Troy Brown has committed to Oregon, choosing the Ducks over Kansas, Alabama, Georgetown and Ohio State.

Kentucky and Duke each scored commitments from five-star prospects Thursday, but it was Alabama that stole the headlines, landing No. 10-ranked Collin Sexton and No. 25 John Petty.

Cal has been busy. Nick Richards, P.J Washington, and Shai Alexander have all committed to Kentucky.

And there's heavy speculation that Quade Green could be next.

You probably already know this. But Green and top recruit Mohamed Bamba played together, and are close AAU teamates, and Green is gonna recruit him hard to UK. Man, that would be the icing on the cake.

Apparently Hamidou Diallo and Green are close too. So getting Green may end up being a two for one, or even three for one. That would be crazy. Diallo along with Bamba was already considering Kentucky.

Yep. Not only that but he's also going to try and get Kevin Knox as well. As for diallo, I'm unsure if we have much of a shot. He seems enamored with UCONN plus he can actually go straight to NBA if he wants to. But if we have any chance I'll take it.

Based on what I've heard of Quade and Diallo through my Syracuse connections, I'd say you guys are probably the favorites to land Diallo now. General belief is that Diallo's constant visits to UConn is more about the convenience of it than actual interest in attending school there.

I think Diallo probably makes the jump to the NBA instead, but if he does opt to go to college, I'd guess it's at Kentucky.

Syracuse is royally ****ed for guards now after Quade bailed on us. He had told the Syracuse staff that he was committing to Syracuse before that UK-Michigan State game; pretty brutal blow to the Syracuse program after they had pushed other guard recruits away to focus on him.

Yeah I am definitely not into rubbing salt into that wound. For sure a big blow for Cuse on this one. Although, if what I read was correct, I am surprised that your coaching staff put all eggs into his basket. JB has been doing this long enough to know that it ain't over until they are signed. Even if he was told by Green he was coming, he should still know better.

As for Diallo, I am interested to see how that plays out. Had always read it was UCONN but that isn't as etched in stone today as it was a few months ago. Plus, like you said, he may go straight to the NBA. If he wants to come to UK though I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it. Would love to round out the class with Knox, Diallo and Bamba. Not sure if that is possible, but if you are gonna dream, might as well dream big.

And for what it's worth, which is literally nothing, sorry for the Green commit. I have been on this forum for many years now and have great respect for a lot of you and I know how you guys feel. It sucks.

100% agreed. While I'm excited that Syracuse has pursued the top-tier recruits harder than they did in the past, putting all of their eggs in one PG's basket (especially when we SHOULD have a good starting PG in place for next year as is) was pretty foolish. They did the same thing last year with Tyus Battle too, and then he verbally committed to Michigan (I think?) before changing his mind and coming back to Syracuse at the last second. I'm not sure if it's the recruiting restrictions that Syracuse has dealt with the last few seasons or something, but hopefully they've finally learned their lesson now that they actually got spurned by someone.

And no worries. Quade looks like the real deal, but PG is the least of Syracuse's concerns. The big deal with landing Quade was that he was hopefully going to bring Diallo with him and at least get Bamba to consider us more. Franklin Howard is a good starting PG, but he's probably either the only guard on the roster next year or one of two (if Tyus Battle comes back for another season). Syracuse really needs to add a SG and Diallo is one of the few top SGs left. It would have been really nice to have a trio of Howard, Quade, and Diallo next year. Instead, Syracuse is probably going to be looking at 3 star recruits and grad transfers to fill out the backcourt.

Luckily for you you have JB there and no matter who you get I am sure he will coach them up. I am not a fan of JB but you can't deny his ability to coach.

On a side note, is JB still planning on retiring in a couple of years? Any idea who will be the replacement yet?

I think back when Syracuse got penalized, he said that he was going to coach until the penalties came off the books, which would technically make next season his last season. As far as we know, assistant coach Mike Hopkins will take over when Boeheim leaves. I'd be shocked if it's anyone else.

Edit: Actually, the penalties might end this season; I can't remember. I do remember Boeheim saying two more years though.

Gonna be a weird landscape when all the older coaches retire. Calipari said initially he wouldn't want to continue doing this when he was 60 but since his son is a walk on I think we get 3 more years after this year at minimum. Then he'll likely either retire or try the NBA again. But Coach K can't possibly have too many years left either.

So sometime in the not too distant future, Boeheim, Calipari and Coach K will be gone. Izzo I have no idea. That dude seems like he could do this forever but you never know. Roy I would think hangs it up sometime in the near future as well. That pretty much leaves Self as an elite coach although I am sure by the time all this happens there will be others climbing into those rankings.

I think Sean Miller is going to be mentioned with the elite coaches in the coming future. He's really starting to show off his recruiting game. He's had some bad luck with top recruits not panning out, and injuries, or guys going overseas. But he's got Arizona right up there with the blue bloods year in, and year out.

Locking up the number one recruit in Deandre Ayton for next year's class is further proof, that man is going to win a title one day.
