Even if I had been serious my line of thinking STILL holds for how ******** that argument was. UNC got bounced in the first round Maryland didnt so based on the assanine reasoning above Maryland and Duke should be higher than UNC in the preseason.

Like I said before what are you talking about, UNC did not get bounced in the first round of the NCAA tournament so that reasoning is invalid.

I guess i should have clarified. Either way my basic argument was its ******** to rank and defend teams in a preseason poll solely based on where they finished in the NCAA and ACC tournaments the prior season. It's a waste of time to even try and reason out preseason polls especially in conferences as competitive (this year at least) as the ACC with so many returning key players. To simply rank teams on where they finished in the ACC tourney or NCAA tourney from 8 months ago so that they'll be right 8 months from now is an exercise in futility. Even more so for a *pre-season* poll.

It's always the preseason teams at the top whos fans are trying to justify their team rank. Come March and April theyre the same fans trying to explain why their team underachieved all year. lol.

              *Carolina bomb thrown below*

As for Carolina and their fans the UNC Basketball program has been overrated since the day Guthridge walked out of the Dean Dome. They haven't lived up to the hype - Felton, May and McCants for all their hype have done few if anything significant in the ACC as a team.

It's hard to argue that, since we haven't even seen the Sweet 16 since Gut left. I don't think he did a good job recruiting though, as evidenced by the horrible 2001 season and then the rebuilding year after that. Doherty wasn't the right choice for the job at that time either. Last year's team was a disappointment for sure, with a bunch of heartbreaking losses that shouldn't have happened. This years team has to show they can play as a team and play hard on defense. If they can do both of those things, then it could be a special year. On paper, there might not be a better team in the nation.

I agree we have underachieved losing a lot of close games the past year. But it is hard to win when you don't have a backup point guard to supply Felton with rest, and May playing Center when his true position is Powar forward. No bench depth lead the tar heels to run out of gas, so talent wise we probably have the best team but thats not enough to win in the ACC, this year we have depth so we will be fine.
