My son had baseball on Saturday so I DVR'd the game and went dark to catch up after the game. This is the first time all tournament that I felt like we would likely lose the game but when you get to the Final 4 you're going to be disappointed with a loss. I've seen Auburn make two of these since 2019 after spending the majority of my life watching a struggling program.
Some thoughts:
- We shortened our rotation up quite a bit going into the tournament. We were playing more guys through the first half of the season but Florida had more quality depth in the front court and the better guard play. Walter Clayton Jr. is the first person since Bird to score 30+ points in the Elite 8 and Final 4. The guy is a machine and a lot the shots he hit were contested shots. I think we did the right thing taking the risk of him going off and limiting the other UF pieces from getting space.
- CBM played with a torn ligament in his thumb and despite Johni Broome saying he was 100% and not making excuses, he was not okay. I think we ran out of gas in the 2nd half of this game and the Florida depth really wore on us. I was happy with how we adjusted vs the first matchup with Florida by denying ball screens but there was a lot of 1H energy expended.
- 2H turnovers got us as well. We protected the ball in the first half but in the 2H Bruce left Pettiford in there too long and the moment was a little too big for him. We did not value the ball enough and I think they were also afraid of pace of play with Florida and slowed it down some. Credit UF for pushing our offense out and running shooters off the line but we also got into the offense a little too slow.
- Great season. I don't have any complaints. I watched every single Auburn game from the road win at Houston, Maui Invitational Win, historic road game at Duke, SEC regular season Champs, and a Final 4. Those are things I wouldn't have thought possible prior to BP. He's a great coach and talent evaluator. Chaney Johnson played at D2 ball, CBM, Johni Broome, and Denver Jones were mid-major players. These are guys that didn't just transfer in for one year but came in and continued to develop and get better. There's a funny screenshot somewhere of Johni Broome posting up Walker Kessler in a Moorehead State vs Auburn game that I love.
Anyways long rant to say GL to any Florida fans out there. I really like Todd Golden as a coach and have no issues with UF. Their frontcourt depth and Walter Clayton Jr. are tough to beat.Comment

Great game, nice comeback by Florida and Clayton finally started getting aggressive and it changed the game. Those shots that Houston was hitting Saturday weren't dropping today shooting 24% from three compared to 45.5% Saturday.
