Re: 2005 UNC comparisons to 2003 Syracuse

Honestly, all these comparisions are a pretty big reach. Melo averaged 20 and 10 as a freshman and was the main guy on Cuse, Marvin Williams averages around 12 and 8 (I believe) and doesn't even start. Sure they're both freshman, but that's about where that comparison ends.

Felton and McNamara are completely different players. Saying both teams have great perimeter threats is kinda moot, considering every NCAA champion has had great perimeter threats, it's kinda vital to winning a national title ya know.

    '04 - Ben Gordon
    '03 - Gerry McNamara
    '02 - Juan Dixon
    '01 - Jason Williams
    '00 - Cleves and Peterson
    '99 - Rip Hamilton and Khalid El-Amin

    and the list keeps going....

Same thing in regards to a certain extent with Warrick and May, though dominate big men are becoming less and less common.

'04 - Okafor and the rest of the frontline
    '03 - Warrick
    '02 - Baxter and Wilcox
    '01 - Boozer and Battier

Duany was a 6'6" guard who played the top of the zone, and was a solid defender, especially cause of his length. If you're thinking of McNeil (#34, wore the black armband), then even he wasn't a great defender in the post, nore is Jawad Williams. McNeil was 100% a role player and a good shotblocker and rebounder but was often in foul trouble and did nothing on the offensive end. Jawad is more offensive minded and spends most of his time on the perimeter.

Louisville cannot be considered a Final Four suprise, a 29-4 team that should have gotten a 2-seed at the worst is hardly a suprise.

The only real comparision that might arise is UNC beating three teams from the conference.

Not tryin' to put you down, but these are just extremely far fetched IMO.

people are goin more on the potential that marvin williams has. it's been a minor setback him not starting because this unc team is so talented. on just about any other team, he would be starting and averaging 20 and 10 i can gurantee you.
