    My Career Trailer

2K dropped the trailer for My Career:

Something that I noticed. Is it just me or does this look like a new scan/cyberface Jimmy Butler. At first glance, it looks better than previous 2Ks:

Haven't seen an update other than sometime this week. Not sure if we are getting a MyCareer Courtside Report today. My guess would be MyCareer Courtside Report today or tomorrow, and My NBA the following day (complete speculation on my part).

    Additional thoughts:

Not a big My Career person but I like that this story focuses on the basketball side of things.

Graphics are looking good. I know it's a trailer and it's possible they glossed it up or took footage from a higher end PC, but this looks like the best looking 2K this gen. A lot of subtle changes (lighting, colors, court shine and reflections, etc) that make for a better, more consistent looking game.

I said it in a different thread but the past few years, there was always something that looked a little off. Whether it was courts looking dull, lighting and colors looking flat, skin tones/textures being inaccurate. I think this is about as good as it will get for current gen, until they decide to overhaul certain aspects (like body models) or completely redo their graphics/visual engine.

That's definitely a new scan. That looks like the best cyberface he had in a long time

I use to play a lot of MyCareer in the past, but I fell out of favor with the mode. My main gripes are starting at 60 OVR and build restrictions. I'm offline only, I don't want to start out at 60 OVR and don't want to buy VC to play a mode offline. There used to be ways to farm VC, but they took a lot of those ways out. I prefer how EA handles builds. I just want to start out around 75 OVR and actually progress to play like a true superstar player. My other issues are AI as a whole in the mode. I don't care for AI playcalling, AI team management, CPU AI behavior.

I might give a try, but starting out a 60 OVR is a deterrent for me

Same. I went through the mode once in 2k16. Won the championship and never felt the need to go back. Maybe this will be the year I check it out again

If it was something where we started at 75-78 OVR and had more build freedom, I would be all over the mode. The problem is the mode is geared around Online and getting people to but MTX. I don't mind the grind, I just don't want to have to spend additional money to be competitive in offline play. At least, the AI Teammates started being viable options. I would like to do a play through, I just don't want to deal with starting at a 60.

NGL, that does kinda look low-key impressive.

It sure beats the heck out of what NHL and FC 26 are offering up for their respective Player Career modes. NHL BAP is essentially offering up replacements that should have been additions, and FC P!Career seems to be getting a couple minor edits to a CTRL-C CTRL-V job.

Oh, and @illwill10: nothing says you can't nerf the difficulty, man. I started a career in 2K25, cranked the diff all the way down, put MP on the Washington Wizards, and they were 21-0 to start the season.

Commentary is still keeping up with that, too, which...sure, shouldn't be THAT surprising from 2K, but when so many other booths don't go past the last ten games, it's something.

Now that you mention it I think I played My Career on Pro because I wanted to enjoy it and not feel like it was a slog. I might have bumped it up as I got better.

Jimmy Butler finally let them scan him...color me shocked. I thought it would never happen like Russell Westbrook.

Overall, I do like the concept of this storyline over the other sports games career modes. I don't care for the EA unspoken storylines. I get that it saves on resources and they don't have to have players/coaches on each teams doing recordings, but it's an immersion breaker just reading the lines. High School in CFB26 and MLB The Show were both lackluster. I was okay with the '15-17 storylines('15 being my favorite). After that, each story felt like a "Made for CW" type of storyline.

I know about dropping the difficultly down. I just wish they had Sliders in Offline MyCareer. It seems like MyCareer is the only single player career mode that doesn't allow you to adjust sliders. I was never sure whether it was because of the online element or wanting gamers to buy VC. Having Sliders in MyCareer would completely change the experience. I don't see why it doesn't, I imagine the Online portion of the mode doesn't go off the difficultly you choose anyway.

I still wish they would separate Offline MyCareer and the Online MyPlayer. I'm sure there's chunk of those players who never want to play the other portion. I don't have interest in playing Online MyPlayer and don't have interest in the City as well. I would love Offline MyCareer to be it's own separate mode that way it allows more build freedom, Sliders, and ability to have Save Files. I don't care for having Auto Save on in Offline MyCareer. There's a ton of times where I want to be able to have a separate save file so I could go back

I mean...2K25, you CAN just shuttle back and forth on the elevator between practice and the arena, without ever setting foot outside. Maybe go out there for a side quest or something, if you need a little extra on the quick, but...Career CAN be self-contained.

Exactly. Two years ago I just ignored all of the online content and only played games and practiced. I did all of the non-online stuff as well (press conferences, fashion show, Brickley’s gym, Gatorade center). You don’t have to do any of the online stuff and because of that, you barely have to move around the city unless you want to purchase gear/shoes, but even that is still technically not “online”.

For me , that isn't my issue. The only time I played a park game was the year they forced you to get out of Rookievile. For the most part, they have done a better job of not forcing you to partake in the online aspects. My issue is just starting at a 60 OVR and online limitations being forced for Offline. The idea of having to play on a low difficulty until you can build up your player isn't fun for me. I still prefer how NBA Live The One mode did it. You start at a 70-75 OVR with your physics nearly maxed to their limits. That way you can contribute right away, but still have to grind to dominate. With 2k, they just care about revenue when it comes to MTX, VC, and Season Passes.

I still say just split the offline and online portion of MyCareer. They could keep the City for Offline, but just don't fill the city with other online players. If an Offline player wants to play online, their build bio and appearance can be cloned to the online mode, they'll just have to make a different build. I just want to make a build that can truly dominate without having to spam.

Outside of build stuff, my other issue is AI as a whole. I don't care for AI Playcalling. I tend to have to change plays in the playbook and change the Play Priorities to ensure offense can flow. I want to be able to play on a switch heavy defense. AI team management and trades are terrible. I like the ability to request trades for teammates. But, there needs to be clear logic or trade likelihood meter attached to it. Nothing is worse than wasting the 3 trade requests on one player who should be attainable

Same MP name. Spike Lee. Two reasons not to buy. And if you don't let me change the name from MP I will never buy this stupid game again.

I feel like they settled in on the MP name since 2k21, lol. The last different name I remember was AI when the story was about starting in China and then to G League

You’ve always been able to change the name from MP as well as the twitter handle. Did you not know you can do this?

I think he meant the storyline being based on "MP" for the past 5 years or so

It would've been nice to know if any of the MyCareer logic has changed. I didn't play 2k25, but I didn't care for being a Free Agent after every season in 2k24. I can fully understand allowing users to be able to choose starting teams. I like choosing teams that has clear need for my position or pairing up with a young star. But, I don't care for being a mercenary player. I rather have to force a trade i don't remember if there were any contract negotiation. I think it was just signing 1 year set deals
