That’s because it’s not the NCAA, it’s individual schools representing themselves now. We’re probably going to end up with some schools on EAs game and some on 2ks game now, if either ever actually release.

EA said it was the NFL that wanted to keep the license exclusive
Yet you read something like this
Is hilarious and sad at the same time

I don't want college basketball by 2K. So they can turn it into a MyCollegeCareer? No thanks.

The NFL did want to keep the exclusive license and EA wanted out of it because it was too expensive. NFL and NFLPA negotiate for all teams and almost every player so it’s a totally different negotiation than what happens at the college level.

And with the NCAA completely out of it, they can negotiate with the CLC to get what they need from the individual schools. I’m curious how they went about that to look for an exclusive college license, but I’d assume it’s much more worth it than the exclusive deal with Madden. The challenge is that each of the schools probably can’t agree to who they’d like to partner with for a game where as the NFL is just one entity and all of the teams are usually on the same page when it comes to business decisions.

I’d also think the exclusive college license decision has more to do that they don’t expect it to have as much popularity as they would for CFB and Madden. March Madness never drew that well compared to the old NCAA Football games. And with Madden, any NFL game is going to sell just because of the popularity. So I’d assume that went into their decision to ask for a CBB exclusive license too.
