    Tis a sad day indeed.

I figured discord had a big impact, but for the life of me I can’t figure discord out. How do you even find anything on there?

I do agree that the new layout doesn't help, but forums are dying in general, not just OS. Most conversations nowadays are had on Discord and Reddit as opposed to old school forums like this one.

There are still plenty of simheads. Every single poll that is taken (and most internal telemetry data gathered by developers) shows that a lot of players still predominantly play offline, hence why we still get offline modes and we still get a sim basketball game offline. However, that's not easily monetizable. Nor is it very marketable these days. So most of the marketing focus goes towards online modes like MyCareer/Park. And so does most NBA 2K content online. Few people would be interested in seeing some dude play Franchise modes (MyNBA/MyGM) on YouTube, so nobody produces that kind of content. Instead, most 2K YouTubers only produce MyCareer content. It's a vicious circle. When I was looking for NBA 2K26 footage to inform my purchasing decision, I could not find A SINGLE YouTuber who made offline gameplay videos. EVERY. SINGLE. 2K. CHANNEL. is focused on online. It's actually kind of nuts. At least with titles like FIFA, you still have a handful of prominent YouTubers who play offline modes, not so with 2K.

So, the devs know we exist, we make up a sizable portion of the player base, but our voices are drowned out by what's monetizable and/or marketable in the basketball gaming niche. Combine that with the death of forums and a controversial layout change and you get the current state of the OS forums.

Depending on which discord channel it is, the general search feature finds anything within that channel, so it’s pretty easy to find stuff and use. If they have their sub-channels setup correctly, then it’s more like a real-time forum anyway.

Discord is just unusable for me and I consider myself tech savvy since the early 80s. It's UI and structure is a joke, I don't even understand how on earth it's so popular. Even mIRC back in 1995 had a better structure.

It’s the same reason why people like Slack for chatting. It’s a way to keep unstructured things in a structured environment while doing it all in more real time. The difficulty is when you don’t really know what to search for because it’s not as structured as a forum, but if setup correctly, it’s easy to find.

The difference is also that it’s not supposed to be used to focused, long form conversation. It’s more like what AIM was vs actual AOL e-mail. Quick conversation, problem solving, fast replies.

This is why I don't understand how Discord is replacing forums. For people posting sliders and rosters, the forums at least offer a place to reference them. On discord you can pin a post at best to keep this information readily available. Reddit I like but unfortunately NBA 2K's reddit seems more like a community of people who want to talk about how much they hate NBA 2K than people who want to actually talk about the game.

I'm too old to constantly hate on the game like people do. 😂 I played 2K25 all year despite its flaws and I'm gonna play 2K26 all year too. I mean, I was skeptical about buying it, but now that I have the game, I'm going to play it. And besides, I ended up really enjoying the game and my skepticism was proven wrong. But anyway, these days I just play video games to have fun and don't sweat the small stuff anymore. If a game isn't good (eg. recent FIFA/EAFC titles), I just don't buy it.

There was a time when I'd voice my frustrations more often, but at 35, I've mellowed out and I just play the game for what it is and have fun playing it. There are way more pressing concerns in my life nowadays that make complaining endlessly about a video game seem just silly. When a game is truly bad to where I can't see myself having fun with it, like EAFC, I vote with my wallet.

Now, offering constructive feedback is fair, after all we're paying customers, we do still want these games to improve year after year and we don't like it when they stagnate or become worse, but like you said, people spend more time complaining about the game than actually playing the thing. That's not the point of gaming to me. The point is to unwind, escape from real life problems for a while and have fun.

This is because you and I are old.

Everything is moving towards quicker response times and quicker engagement, so forums are becoming obsolete. Even for sharing rosters/sliders, it’s pretty easy to share via discord and search for them, but most people aren’t focused on that these days anyway.

I was skeptical too. To me it plays pretty smooth and looks way better than 25. Especially the arena lighting.

I'm fairly certain a lot of the things people complain about will be fixed through patches. Luckily we live in an era where the version of the game that shipped isn't the version we are stuck with for year.
