Re: Is This The Biggest Year to Year Regression of All-Time?
Yeah but they didn't actually fix any of the issues....x10. People have a right to voice their opinions and they should. But too often some on the boards resort to hyperbole to try to make a point and it's completely unnecessary. "Biggest regression of all-time?" lol? Geez. Then the minute the devs react to those complaints, the guys that were complaining are complaining they went overboard. It's like the porridge can't be too hot, can't be too cold... has to be just right. It's like people are mad the game isn't a grand slam on their first attempt out and some refuse to show patience/give them time to implement [whatever their vision for the modes will be].
But that's what the forums have become. When they tried to implement live ball a few years ago it got shot down in year 1 because it didn't work perfectly out of the box on it's first implementation; few years later people were saying 2K shouldn't listen to the fanbase so much because they wanted it back. They blow out the Legends content in 2K12 and the perception that gets pushed is the game completely sucked. 2K pulls back on the Legend implementation in the following years and some flip out.
It wasn't but a few months ago where I was reading hardcore Association players saying the mode had grown stale and needed to be redone. Meanwhile in the name of competition, people are willing to give NBA Live years to get their act straight if it takes that. When you'd think 2K would've brought enough goodwill to have earned the benefit of the doubt. I don't see the logic in trying to tear down yet another year 1 effort right off the bat simply because it's not perfect. Give it some time; if it sucks then blow it up. Again, it's not like you can't go back to current gen and get the experience you want if you really want to. But the whole "We're going to show selective patience" thing doesn't make sense.
I was very excited when I heard the news about MyGM and then reading the developer diary. But in reality it turned out that they ignored all the major issues which have been there since 2k9. I would much rather they had fixed them instead of adding conversations with my owner.Comment

Re: Is This The Biggest Year to Year Regression of All-Time?
There's been an outcry on this forum. It's probably been pretty much contained to that. That is about as "niche" as it gets.
Don't get me wrong... I think you guys should have that option, and I hope they don't neglect it in the future... I just think its importance is overstated when assessing the overall package the game provides

10 similar posts? In the next gen forum? Show me. In a forum with numerous people complaining, I feel it's appropriate to balance the argument.
I have no problem with others stating their gripes. I have problems with hyperbole. 2K could use improvements, yes. And I stated that in my "10 similar posts." But to ignore what they've accomplished because you didn't get what you wanted to the letter? That I don't agree with. To be clear, I hope everyone gets what they want, BUT I'm not sure one title can provide that. Ever.
I'll leave you to your complaints. I got my $59.99 worth.

Re: Is This The Biggest Year to Year Regression of All-Time?
Some of these posts are funny. Maybe the thread should be is this the biggest regression in the history of 2k? That could be very debatable. 2k10 to 11 was a huge jump. I can't really think of a time with 2k (played every iteration since dreamcast) that the did regress this much with modes, options, and customization? People on here that are happy and love the game obviously can't stand to hear complaints about it. Well stay out of this thread then. Go create this is the best 2k ever thread. People flipped with the lack of options in madden when CG 1st came out. It's no different here. This year madden made the jump with all modes and didn't skip a beat.
I understand that they have created a base for the future and like I said I'm sure a lot of the customization and modes will be returning in future games. Maybe my expectations were to get a similar game with all the modes that were in the last game. This isn't the 1st time 2k has done this. They pulled crew (I have never played it and it doesn't interest me) and the people spoke up and it returned. I could care less about the mode but glad it's returned for the crew heads. To THEM it wasn't the same game. No CAP feature is huge for roster makers. Assuming most the people that love the game and don't care about these missing features have never used any of the unbelievable rosters on this forum that users have created. The legends rosters, rosters with all the missing players in the league that 2k doesn't put in all year, the rosters with players real dribble edits, hot spots, and tendencies that are true to life, rosters with teams real plays they use in real life. These options are now gone.
I'm a basketball coach for a living. I've coached basketball for nearly 15 years now. I'm anal about what I want to see in a basketball simulation. I want it to emulate what I see in real life. If you think out of the box rosters has this then your a casual fan who probably just watches the player who has the ball when you watch a game. So, for me playing a game that's I editable AFTER having it be editable in previous years is a huge disappointment. The guys I see that share my opinions seem to be the same guys who are in the roster forums and threads frequently so they get it. If your not one of those guys please go visit the current gen roster forum and research the testers of the game and the issues they have found. I get when you like a game you don't want anyone saying otherwise to skew your view and point out flaws in the game that exist but don't be naive thinking this game is perfect or these issues don't exist because they do. This still might be the best playing 2k ever (I'm not denying this) but it can always improve.
Bottom line is if you feel it's worth the price to you then so be it. I don't so I won't buy. I want a fully featured, customizable game. I had this last year so I guess I expected the same this year. But I will still visit this forum, and voice my opinions and complaints the same way I did to the devs at 2k team up. What works for you might not work for others. I think 2k should b a customizable game and the more options the better for the community. I'm not even crying about it. It is what it is. I will wait til 2k15. Like da czar says though we as a community need to voice our opinions and be heard so the devs know what we want. Just because you don't care about these things or have lesser expectations than some of us does not mean we are wrong nor does it mean you guys are. If your happy with the game great. I'm glad your happy. But if you think it's perfect and never voice any ways to improve the game how is that helping.Basketball Playbooks

If you are referring to this video, I believe it was made by Da Czar, not 2K.

Re: Is This The Biggest Year to Year Regression of All-Time?
Removing "Create-a-Player"... AND...Association mode was just too much for me to stomach. smh.
Personally, these 2 elements was the whole reason I enjoyed NBA 2K series.
I only play Association mode (offline) because....
- It allowed me to create-a-player (that resembles myself)
- and I could put him on ANY team I wanted to
- and I had complete control over the other 4 teammates, during the game.
- and could call timeouts, set my defense, or make ANY substitutions AT WILL.
In short, it felt like **I** was actually a player in the NBA...
Not just another gamer who is using LeBron, or Kobe, or Mello.
Some people can relate. Some can't.
To each their own.
I really dislike the MyPlayer mode.
Mainly because in MyPlayer...
- On the PS4, I can create a player (but he looks nothing like me. lol)
- There are NO light-skinned black guys, or Latino-looking 'preset' character faces. (OK, I'm black and light-skinned. lol. just saying)
- So on the PS4, I cannot create a player who looks like myself, or Tony Parker, or Allan Houston, or Francisco Garcia, or Al Horford, because we can't control the skin-tones, or facial features, like in previous versions.
- Also, I cannot control what team I play for, in MyPlayer mode.
- And I cannot control the other 4 players on the court (just myself)
- So I have to sit there and watch the CPU miss easy shots (at best) and/or lose winnable games (at worst). Game after game after game.
- I cannot call any timeouts, to stop a run.
- I cannot make any substitutions AT WILL.
- So I am completely at the mercy of the CPU AI, in terms of any "playing time" I get on the court.
Plus there's just way too many cutscenes, imo.
Some folks like that style of play. (Not me)
But again, to each their own.
So at the end of the day, I agree with the OP.
Yes, to me... this is the BIGGEST year-to-year regression I've seen from 2K.
Don't get me wrong, the enhancements to the gameplay & mechanics (like EcoMotion and the MyGM stuff) on the PS4 are GREAT... however, the BLATANT omission of the 'core elements' that fundamentally dictate... HOW and WHY... I even play the NBA 2K series, in the first place........ is a major disappointment for me.
This omission was my personal 'deal breaker'.
I just got my PS4 on Friday.
But after only just 2 days of playing 2K14 on the PS4, I got too frustrated and just returned my copy to Gamestop and got a refund.
Now I do not post very much on this forum, I am a 'lurker' here..
But I have bought lots of 2K NBA games over the last decade, like most of you. And this is the VERY FIRST TIME I've ever actually **returned** a 2K NBA game.
Even in past years, if I didn't like a certain aspect (or game mode) as much as previous versions, it would just collect dust.... But I never even CONSIDERED getting my money back.
As a result, for the first time in years... I am willing to buy NBA Live 14... just to have something called "NBA" to play.
Although the graphics appear far below the impressive benchmark set by 2K Developers, I will definitely give it a chance if it allows me to create-a-player.... and play basketball the way I like to play.
In hindsight, if 2K had just somehow ported the current-gen 'Association' Mode & 'create-a-player' tools.... this next-gen PS4 version would rate as a decisive 'home run' for me... considering ALL that other new stuff they developed.
Everyone has their own limit.
And this decision by 2K was mine.
I'll take a break from 2K this year and settle for NBA Live... while I wait for the 2K15 version. Or a DLC.
Whichever comes first.

2K7 was actually good. It's like going 2K14 to 2K4. If you want. "Good" to "Bad"
It's seriously an opinion though. There's Yes and No, but there's no true answer. You can have valid points to justify and proof for both sides.
