If other people do, that's absolutely their prerogative. But as others have said, it's only going to reinforce 2K's micro transaction implementation, which sucks in the long run.
My dude 2K didn't invent micro transactions and they won't be the last company to implement it. Just like the prices of everything else has gone up, so has the price to enjoy video games. I actually just wrote a blog here about how they can help balance the competition between VC buyers and non VC buyers, but I think the idea 2K has put in place is a decent foundation between company and consumer. The days of 100% customer satisfaction are gone and I have no faith that the entire gaming community will boycott the next release to force their hands. Can they do better with pricing and how much we get for playing, of course. Will they abandon VC in their games in the future, I doubt it.

It doesn't matter who invented micro transactions, a game like 2k doesn't need to base the whole game around it.

My team, okay fine. Let people buy packs, i won't play it tho because if i paid $60 for the game i don't think i should have to pay more to stay competitive. (The price of packs this year is insane.)

But the whole point of my career is to play thru games to get better. Period. Why even give people the option to buy skill...stop being greedy. It completely ruins park's competitiveness.

I have a 78 overall pf with finisher and eraser level one..He's good enough to beat a lot of 90 overalls...but still, if a team of 3-5 99s with maxed out everything and all sig skills gets next there's nothing i can do. Just a free loss from some bs.

If the game was only $30 then okay, make us spend some more money to get other features with vc, but this is a $60 game, i should never feel like i have to spend more to stay competitive.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

Look man, I'm not trying to beef with you, but understand it's a business. Games aren't going to stay $60 forever. The way My Player worked previously isn't the way it's going to work in the future. That's the reality of business. They don't create games solely for our enjoyment, they create them for profit. They've found a method to increase the bottom line. I agree with you that the game needs more balance and maybe some sort of filter system to separate VC buyers from non VC buyers, but the practice is probably here to stay. For me, spending $100 on a game I will play all year round is worth it and pretty cheap. For others it's not. So I understand the gripes, but we have to be realistic too. The answer is somewhere in the middle.

I think your last sentence sums it up. I do not believe this level of VC implementation is inevitable, nor a foregone conclusion or something we should just readily accept. This type of move is only sustainable if folks stay on board and support it.

If we were to go back in time just seven years, would anyone believe it if we were to tell them NBA Live would die and lose virtually its entire fanbase within four years? People, above all else, want a great product. NBA Live had a Madden-esque stranglehold on casual basketball fans, but it wasn't enough to save them in the face of ruin (and a superior artistic endeavor in NBA 2K).

People like great products. If 2K begins to skew away from achieving such a goal in favor of chasing cash money via wild VC implementation and priorities misaligned from creating a real life basketball simulation, it's not a guarantee consumers will stick around for that.

I spent $5 for current gen, we were running 5on5 crew and my pro was the weakest out of everyone, only reason.

Never again, I'd have no problems spending VC if the business model was more fair to people who don't but it's not. Doesn't feel right to support a company doing that.

It's wouldn't be a $60 dollar product even if there was no VC. The game is FILLED with ads. You don't think they get money from those? There's an unskippable Sprint ad which takes a few seconds every game. Not living in the US I couldn't even get anything by Sprint (I guess they're a telecommunications company). The gatorade ads are everywhere. When you start your MyCareer in the very first scene your guy is drinking from a bottle with a gatorade logo on it. The announcers speak about gatorade all the time. Adidas. Nike. Jordan. And whatever else.

Not to mention the series has more than doubled it's selling numbers in the past couple of years. If you wanna make a claim that it's no longer profitable to make us pay for a full priced game every year, you're completely off.

Im not against the VC thing but when you look at all the big youtubers using it for their videos it's only good for 2k
