If this is true, that's a serious issue.

And it proves the OP article point about having to be 'always connected'.

If a gamer does not have internet connectivity for any reason ... (like a temporary 'service outage' affecting their local area)

There is no way they can boot up the game >> CONNECT to the internet >> then DISCONNECT from the internet.

We really have to connect to the internet FIRST.. then disconnect... To play offline?

    Unbelievable.

I guess that 2k want you to connect at least once a day in order to collect data about what and how you are playing and decide about 2k15 accordingly

It is hit or miss. It works for some, doesn't work for others. Just trying to get to the bottom of it. It actually works for me and a few others, based off of tweets and from the NeoGAF post.

I do agree though, it's unbelievable.

          BS!
this is false. I can start the game turning off the online faster than I can if the game was connected online.

actually for anyone to test this you need to just completly turn off your router and make sure you have no connection. I just did this and got the long *** Lebron screen that never left. Anyone who would get this would think the game is broke or something is wrong with it. Know one is going to wait 10+ mins for it to load up if that's even how long it takes to load up. I only waited a few mins. So to me this is true.

Turn game system completely off and have the internet off then turn system on and you'll get different results. That's what happened to me. That's how ppl will turn on the system.

so you have some special addition that doesn't do a Authentication loop while offline? because that's what ppl are saying what's going on; which is why it takes so long to load the menus.

If you're offline and getting stuck at the lebron screen on ps4 try pressing the "PS" button in the middle of the controller, then hit back (circle button). After about 10 seconds the game has loaded for me everytime in this scenario.

Re: NBA 2K14 patched in Always Online requirement

A few days ago, I was following a Q&A with Ronnie where he clearly stated that 2K14 for next gen was completely playable offline.

This was after the second patch.

Anyway, this should be super easy for anyone to test by completely disabling an internet connection and then going into the game. However, those expecting to be able to access their previous cloud saves while doing this won't be able to because online saves are stored on their servers (not the systems themselves).

This was made very clear. The question really should be can someone with no internet connection play this game? Not, can an online save be accessed offline, because of course it can't. According to Ronnie, as of a few days ago, the answer to offline only playability is an absolute yes.

They are really doing things *** backwards with this game. Now we r supposed to suffer thru 15 min bootups to play a game that wont run for that long without crashing?

Here's a sample of the conversation from Playstation blog. Notice how the first part is very confusing but how Ronnie clarifies later on. This is very consistent with everything I've read regarding the 'is the game online only?' issue:

Jarett: ...A single-player game mode should not be affected by one’s internet connection and I consider these very serious bugs. BTW, the first bug occured before the most recent patch and the second bug after.
Really digging the game beside this and the confusing menus. This is my first b-ball game and I’m addicted.

Ronnie: Glad to hear. One reason online is necessary is that we want everyone to be on equal footing when it comes to their MyCAREER.

Jarett: ...Sorry Ronnie, I don’t understand. I played MyCareer mode offline last night, so a connection doesn’t seem required. What do you mean by ensuring everyone is on equal footing? Does it report gameplay statics for balancing purposes or something?
                                Thanks.

Ronnie: It’s not required but we want to make sure it’s not hex editted or anything. A lot of people do end up playing great modes like The Park and the last thing we want to see is Giant MyPlayers like 2K11!
