The graphics and presentation are an A, easily. The gameplay is a B+, still some minor aggravating issues and teammate AI is still far too stupid in MyCareer (even with high IQ guys like Durant or Kobe).

Every single other thing about this game is a fail or incomplete. The menus are dreadful. The game does a terrible job of saving your settings between gameplay sessions. VC is a blight.

But the bugs. Oh my god, the bugs. Game freezes, roster issues, corrupted saves. MyGM and MyCareer have been bugged and unplayable for almost four weeks now.

It is one thing to have game breaking bugs. It is another thing to have game breaking bugs and some of the worst customer support I have ever encountered. I have spent hours waiting on hold to speak with 2k customer support and have gotten through twice. My ticket has been closed without resolving my issues twice.

Laughably, 2k has now refunded me 48k VC for my corrupted saves, but the corrupted saves still repopulate in my save files taking up all five slots, so the VC is entirely useless.

If 2k offered me a refund, I would happily take the money. I love the game, but I am so disappointed in the company.

On the note of customer support, I had put in a ticket about a mycareer issue. After a week, I got a generic response requesting information. I responded and then another week-and-a-half later I got a one-line question asking about a setting that I couldn't check because there was no menu option. I responded that I wasn't sure and that was the last I heard from 2K.

The patch came out a week and half later and my issue was fixed, but I was never told anything by 2K support and they just stopped contacting me prior to any resolution of my problem.

Really quite unacceptable indeed.

I'll give it a C+ overall. The graphics are beautiful, and the presentation is very good as well. Gameplay is the best it's ever been. I really enjoy the on court gameplay, though there are still some major issues. I still don't feel like I have full control over my defenders, and the CPU is able to get into the paint regardless of what you do. Sometimes they actually phase through your defender on the way to the rim. Rebounding needs some work as well, and so do shooting percentages.

MyCareer is FILLED with glitches. Some of the minor, some game-breaking. Accesory prices need to be fixed immediately. There is no reason why I should need to spend a season's contract worth of VC to buy a headband. MyTeam is very fun, although the VC prices and player market values are flat out stupid. They need to be addressed. Selling a guy like Tony Parker presently won't even get you enough MyTeam points to buy a bronze pack. It's obvious that all of this was intentionol to try and force people to buy VC. Right now, it is impossible to enjoy every game mode without purchasing VC or playing EXCESSIVELY. Nobody has time to straight up farm VC all day.

MyGM is complete and utter garbage. Loaded with bugs, obviously not tested thoroughly before release...and the fact that VC is involved is stupid. You have to spend VC just to do have the ability to do simple things like set a lineup or fire a coach. There are tons of attributes, abilities and other things you can buy. If you choose not to buy things like faculties, it's difficult to keep your coach/owner happy. It's not possible to play this mode without playing the games, unless you save up 40-50k VC prior to playing. The rewards are laughable. If you're lucky, you'll get 1000 VC for a season.

Lastly, the online-only aspect is greedy. We SHOULD NOT have to be online to play single player game modes. It's stupid, and easily the worst aspect of the game for me when you consider the fact that 2k's servers have never been reliable.

I haven't experienced any issues with VC so other than the horrible servers I have not had any issues. I would give it an A+ if it weren't for that but until its fixed I would say a B.

A- on presentation
A-/B+ on gameplay look/feel/depth
B- on on-court gameplay balance (overpowered momentum, bugs, legacy issues)
C on gameplay strategic depth (no Defensive Settings!!)
C- on game mode progression (VC microtransaction implementation)


Overall-- B. 2K is the pet student I see much potential in and is simultaneously doing brilliant work and making grevious mistakes in other areas. It's trajectory could easily end up with a B- or down the line.

A's and B's on graphics, presentation and gameplay. Big fat F on server connectivity, the cloud saving, the overusing of the VC concept, the problems with the Park, corrupted save games and all that other crap that makes you want to run outside and scream in peoples faces.

So overall, about a D+, maybe C-. Paying 70 bucks for this? Probably top 5 of biggest mistakes in 2013.

As a quick gamer and straight season mode guy who has yet to encounter a major glitch, I'll give it a B-

The gameplay despite flaws is some of the best ever, and all the issues I do have can be fixed by sliders..

I take away points for the lack of support/ attention to detail and I just genuinely feel bad for guys with game breaking glitches TBH..

This next gen version of 2K14 gets an F.
All around.

On the court looks good... but this completely buggy, stripped-down, modes missing, rushed development schedule, partially-tested, VC riddled, RPG wanna-be, cutscene fiasco, 'Trial Version', shell of a real video game that should have been sold at 1/2 price with numerous 'Disclaimers' upfront... does not deserve a higher grade for the things they actually got right, this year.

B- <--Offline gameplay
D- <--Online gameplay...horrible lag; no lobbies; no ranking; bad servers.
C+ <--Overall game play. Heavy use of animations for gameplay slow things down especially online. Need to fix the steal animations that can't be cancel out or execute other moves until that animations is finished; rebounding is horrible...too many offensive rebound like i swear i clearly boxed out and somehow, some way the offensive players magnetize toward the ball; fix the bounce pass...when nobody is pressuring you...bounce pass should connect especially when someone is wide open.
C- <--Online menus and user friendly access. It's terrible...quick substitution is difficult. I wish they implement a pre-set substitutions that involve just holding down a button and tapping another.
Overall: C+ ( i buy this game mostly for online gaming..so yea...i could have give the game an F but i am being generous).

Sorry but I can't see this game as an F in my opinion. Gameplay is too solid to name the game a failure, I'm thinking more in the low B high C range given the technical issues they've had.

IT maby next year i wont be the 2k beta tester again, i thought that at least they would have fixed their online for NG but they only focus on their money grap VC thing sorry 2k i wont pay

Overall I give this game a B-. Look I hear the constant complaints that this game is missing elements and the vc is crap and the always online sucks.


First off the game is beautiful probably one of the top games out graphically for the ng. I have no problem with the game play all that much I haven't had to much to mess with and really the only complaint I have at all star level that I play on is the defenders sticking to my player and cant seem to follow my plays because I cant get separation.


The missing game elements does not to come to me as a surprise because this is NG. Don't we recall what the current generation dealt with their first generation of sports games. I think anyone that expected more honestly expected to much and should had done their research honestly because they were straight up about a lot of the stuff like having more then one team in GM mode and not having an association mode. The worst part about the complaints about this situation is if they had waiting a year to release this game then people would be complaining why didn't they release a 2k for the NG. They cant really win and I wish people would see it from the angle. Don't get me wrong I am not saying it is perfect either, they could had waiting a year to add the GM mode and story to the my player mode and done just the association mode as well but I give them credit for thinking outside the box and trying to take advantage of the new systems.


This whole VC discussion makes me laugh, the VC has nothing to do with the issues with the servers, let it go, lets be honest the servers are just crap and that is the worst part of this game. You don't have to buy VC if you want to play the game. Does it suck you have the buy the rights to fire people and change your lineup, yes they could had used better judgment on some of the options but your really not forced to buy it. You play for a few hours and your gonna get a good start on VC coins to get those things unlocked and work on things that you could use.


I think the biggest mistake 2k made with the NG version is the always online, I think they should had limited it as and may even not required it. But they are trying to add so much to their NG version that I get it but I think we all could had waited another year for some of this new stuff honestly. I will be honest the server issue is the biggest reason why I think this game is a B- and not in the A's because this game has the potential. I don't think the game was rushed out as well, there is only so much testing you can do before you release it. There are bugs and glitches they need to fix don't get me wrong and this one does have more issues then most but don't act like the other versions of 2k were perfect I know we had issues we had to deal with every year. I think with this being the first version of 2k for the NG that the bugs and glitches understandable as long as they are working on them which they have been. Now if the server continues to be done for some people and we are stuck the way the game is now by the end of January I will change my tone a little because that would be 2 full months they had to fix it and it didn't happen.


I honestly believe some people had to much expectations for this and honestly me being in the business I knew going in what it was going to be like as well because I have dealt with this before with the current gen systems when they launched. Seriously don't get me started about madden 06 for 360/ps3 lol.


Right now I still think the game is worth $60 but that's only if they do fix the server issues and continue to release updates for the bugs and glitches that are annoying.
