Re: Enough of the teammate score

The scripted part is a minor annoyance in an 82 game season. It's sometimes amusing even, like when I got the wingman thing and the guy broke his leg that game and went out for the year but still came up in full uniform after the game with no cast or anything and complained I didn't get him the ball and we'll try again next game. Then a few games later after I hit a game winning shot and there he was again in the locker room in full uniform congratulating me, what a team player. My problem with the teammate grade is that is that I can suck and have an A+ by halftime as a center, but as a guard you have to play great for an A+.

Yeah, I'm a shooting guard. I get into the A's at times but by games end I am in the lower B's or C's cuz it's almost like I become a target for the opponent.

You're right. I didn't even look at the thing all game and was a lot more relaxed. Just played the way I thought was best and it was a lot more fun.

In the summary at game's end it said I was a B-, but how I got there, I have no idea.

I honestly used to tape a small piece of paper over the corner of my screen because it was so frustrating to me lol. I just don't care anymore though. All that matters to me is winning.

            "Shot blocked"
            "Allowed offensive rebound"
            *Falls to floor*
*Man pump fakes a bunch while I get up*
            "Shot blocked"
            "Allowed offensive rebound"
            "Allowed man to score"

This just happened to me a couple of hours back... with 2 of my team mates standing around watching. So I'm the only one going up for blocks while my 2 friends are eating popcorn and I'm to blame for them having the reflexes of a wet noodle?

Lots of other examples but I'm sure you guys can come up with more yourselves...

Most of the "grades" should take into account the situation. Allowing a man to score late in a game where you are 20 or more points ahead should not carry much, if any, weight in the scoring, but they are all graded the same which is ridiculous. Also, I really don't think allowing one of the league leaders to score should be weighted as heavily as allowing a 12th guy to score.

The size of the penalties are far more then the rewards you get for something good. I needed 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 2 free throw shots to get my grade back up to where it was before I got penalized for allowing a basket.
The scripted games are fairly rare. It ultimately doesn't make much of a dent over the course of an entire season. I'm still on the fence on how I feel about the scripted stuff in MyPlayer overall. I'd love it if these things were dynamic and really affected by your play, instead of forcing you into these things. As is, I'm OK with it, just not thrilled.

You actually don't get marked down for allowing a guy to score, as long as you were in a position to force a contested shot. You'll instead get credit for "Good Shot Defense," which gives you a pretty good boost to your grade. You get marked down for allowing your man a good look ... for the most part (occasionally the CPU still docks you even when you were in good position, hopefully that iron that out next year).

Higher grades get you some extra VC, but as others have said, you can pretty much ignore it as it doesn't make that big of a difference.

I wouldn't mind cut scenes if they were programmed to be based on how a player does rather than using the cut scenes to determine how a player plays. I see the potential for cut scenes to be fun if they are done right.

i think this is the major issue. the game doesnt take into account what actually leads up to the score. if i get caught behind a double screen or god forbid my OWN TEAMMATE sets a pick on me (or just completely gets in my way rather) and my man scores i get penalized. instead my teammates should be penalized for not playing good help defense. the same goes for if i rotate to help my teammate who clearly got beat to prevent a layup and it leads to my man scoring. the grade does not account for help defense at all and that needs to be fixed. hell even solid onball/offball defense isnt graded. if i force my man to pass out or pick up his dribble because my defense is so smothering i should get some kind of boost to the grade. the intangibles are not measured well.

da czar always says "dont play video games play basketball". but this mode pretty much forces you to play the video game.

Yes. Many times my own teammates knock me off of the guy I'm defending. Since I can't slap them across the head myself, the game should penalize them, not me.

A lot of the little things are not noticed.

For example, I recently played against the Lakers. Bryant ended off with 17 points but only 4 of them came while I was defending him. I spent 18 minutes defending him, but the fact I shut him down did not register any reward. I also managed to draw 2 charging fouls and 3 defensive fouls from him which caused him to foul out with 5 minutes left in the game (he had 1 foul before I entered the game), but I didn't get any credit for getting him out of the game. At that point the Lakers were making a run, got within 5 points, but as soon as Bryant left the Lakers momentum was busted and they didn't threaten any more, they ended off losing by 14. Yes, I got some small credit for each foul, I know that.

But the fact I held him to 4 points meant nothing to the game. (My thumb was killing me by the time he went out. All that pain for nothing ).

All these little things can, and do, impact a game but they aren't recognized by the game. Personally, I think the best thing I did for my team was shut him down and get him out.
