I think there is a bit of that logic - players have ratings of importance for things like playing for a winning team, financial security, and loyalty. It might not have the impact that some may want, and that's understandable.

I don't know how I feel about seeing certain teams flat locked out of even the opportunity to talk to certain free agents.

Although I do believe a certain aspect of that does exist. During my free agency period, while I was able to sign LeBron James, Kobe Bryant wouldn't even talk to me.

I think something like market interest and franchise prestige would help to balance things. Add a bunch of small influences like that, then if the players interest is low try using certain pitches to increase his interest. Basically like the recruiting used to be in college games(namely CH2k8)

I had a good one going until the offseason when the top free agents choose dumb teams to play with. LeBron went to the Sixers something he'd never do & Melo went to the Phoenix by himself. It's all bull**** & one small note..WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MELO & LEBRON HEAD BANDS? they look like old men lol. I played with Detroit by the way.

To me - Free Agency is not the issue. I have yet to play ANY sports video game where I don't have to impose some house rules to prevent ridiculous trades/FA signings.

To me - the problem is the GM rankings. I have played a ton of this game. My GM is at level 70 (max) and I have purchased almost every upgrade(private plane/better health facility, etc.). So any player I acquire on average jumps 5 or 6 ratings points higher when they come to me. My second year point guard jumps 8 points higher. He was the 5th pick and came in at 82 or something. He had a great season (rookie of year) I sent him to "camp" in the off-season so he got a bump there - and now in my second season he is rated 97. I only have 2 "stars" on my team KLove and Brooke Lopez - the rest are "good" to average" players but with MyGM level my team is stacked. And that's without really trying.

I love the concept - it rewards you for paying your dues and such. It just needs to be toned down a bit.

            Re: MyGM is getting boring.

Mygm can get a bit boring sometimes. I have 3 or 4 different mygm saves I haven't played in a while. However building the Knicks into a winner has kept me occupied for a while. I play a lot of the games. The ones I sim are usually the games against the worst teams. After the 2017 season and a 2nd championship I resigned my position with the Knicks and took the Grizzlies job. The roster is a mess and their money situation sucks. So it'll be a challenge to build them into a winner. I left the Knicks as a powerhouse and I intend to do the same to the Grizzlies. When I resigned the Knicks job the Grizzlies were the worst rated so that is why I took them. I will do the same thing and over a 4 year period build them into a winner and resign after 4 years and go on to whichever franchise is the worst at that time. This should keep me busy for a while.

Agreed. I created a new PSN account just to deal with this exact issue.

I upgraded my new account to about level 13 and never purchase any player attribute facility upgrades, I'm also doing my best to keep it realistic as the Magic GM and actually starting to enjoy the mode again.

The best cure for this is house rules as has already been stated. I have an association mode with the bucks. Currently my best player is Danillo Gallinari (76) so ya my team is pretty horrid. But the house rule I have set up to keep things realistic and not allowing me to build them into a title contender over the off season (see recent poster who made the Magic Championship favorites over night by signing Lebron.) Is to not be allowed to sign a free agent within 5 overall points to my best player. Since this is Milwaukee and no top player would ever want to sign there. So this off season the best overall rated player I can sign is going to be 71 overall. This forces me to develop players and build through the draft. Much more realistic in my opinion. Also makes a rebuilding project way more fun and interesting for me!

The ease of making blockbuster trades to add pieces ruins the immersion factor.
I just got the game yesterday and within two hours or so had traded for Kevin Love and signed LeBron James in free agency with the Jazz. All it took was a decent lottery pick and some cap space.

A few months ago I read something about Madden that made it very clear why officially licensed games can't go the OOTP route. Basically, everything that EA puts into the game is subject to the NFL's approval. The reason that a 1-11 team's home stadium is still packed with fans? Because the NFL thought it looked bad to have anything less than sellout crowds in the game. Never mind that it creates a disingenuous experience for the gamer. The NFL just doesn't want to be subject to the perceived slight. Frankly, I'm surprised the NFL lets you relocate and rebrand teams in Madden.

I'd imagine the NFL is more rigid than the NBA, but I'd also guess that there's reasons why customization is fairly limited in 2K. I mean, personally, I think the NBA is way too big. I think they have at least 10-12 too many teams in markets that just don't make a ton of sense (what superstar player is going to want to play in Minnesota or Utah or Milwaukee?) and if I had complete control in a video game, the first thing I'd do is dump those teams right out of my universe. Of course, the NBA probably wouldn't like that I'm removing the logos and likenesses of a dozen of their franchises from view.

I haven't really gotten that far into MyGM, so I'm not sure how those ratings bumps work. What attributes are actually being increased for the players when they sign to your team?

I've been playing MyGM ever since release and I never got passed two seasons without restarting. It's the same old shtick where I get bored playing games and all I want to do is sim.

                          Re: MyGM is getting boring.

I'm into my 4th season with Portland. 1st and 2nd season I made the 2nd round of the playoffs but then got eliminated.
In my 3rd season I won the championship with the following team. I've tried to keep the current Blazers team and have mainly just brought in bench players via free agency.

                          Lillard
                          Gordon
                          Batum
                          Aldridge
                          Lopez

Into my 4th season and I'm not doing as well as Gordon has been out for the first 3 months.

I sim most games. Will occasionally play the first half and then sim to the end of the game.

I disagree, but my opinion not be as valid as I've only had next-gen NBA 2K14 for a few weeks. I'm having a lot of fun in myGM. In different saves, I've guided the LeBron James led-Cavaliers to win the NBA Finals in seven games (in the 2014-2015 season) I'm in the process of rebuilding the Bucks (cut everyone originally on the team, signed FA's below 70 overall, and am now building the team from the ground up.) My main save is a Wizards myGM starting in the 2014-2015 season. In early December, the team is 12-12, fifth in the Eastern Conference.
