Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
May not be popular opinion here, but this change has me more excited for MyCareer than ever. I can understand why people want the old draft system back, but for me it was always one of the worst parts of MyCareer. Unless you purposefully tank you always ended up on the same small handful of teams, and this always hurt replayability for me. You can talk about realism but there has never been anything realistic about MC simply because you can end up being a basketball god in year 1, even on Hall of Fame mode, and often times you were one.
So for me all this change does is offer me options on what team to play on from day one instead of waiting years for my contract to expire. I suppose the best compromise would of been to offer both options, one where you attempt to get drafted and one where you choose to go into free agency, but I'm excited for this change in direction regardless.Comment

Frankly, I think the "getting drafted" thing has been done enough. Let's move on to some more INTERESTING stories. The mode is as much about your path to greatness than just the same old - let's tryout and see where you get drafted. Really, I HATED the "slick shooting forward from blah blah blah" and the rest of the stoic presentation of the draft.
I can't believe that you're not intrigued by this new path. I think it's a GOD-send, but to each his own I guess.
Playing overseas and in Euro League would be interesting options, but I sure wouldn't want that to be a forced career path of the year either. I'm a little surprised you're blasé about the draft's inclusion because of a few less than ideal audio clips.
There is no way a draft can be "done enough" in a mode about NBA careers just as there's no way the "winning a championship thing" can be done enough in MyLeague or MyGM. It's an integral part of the experience. It's being a part of NBA history and legacy.Last edited by Sundown; 09-23-2014, 08:53 PM.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
I forget which game it was, but there was an earlier version of 2k (back when it was called myplayer) where you started off undrafted. And a lot of people thought this was the best version of the mode.
they didn't always have the player being drafted. This was when the game was fun cause you had to earn your way into the league.
hopefully this is a step back in the right direction where you have to earn your way. I never liked the rookie showcase anyway. rather play my way through summer league, then get invited to training camp, then play my way onto a team.
.
It was the best implementation because it was the most authentic, rewarding, comprehensive, and flexible of implementations. All it needed was for an option to set the number of pre-NBA games played for those that didn't want to go through all of it.
Getting rid of the Draft after getting rid of the Summer League, D-League, and Combine is diametrically opposed to the things you highlighted. And in fact, losing some of the above items (progressively less concern about NBA authenticity in the starting game) is consistent with the direction that ultimately has us losing the draft itself.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
See here's the thing. That version was the best because it HAD the Draft. It DIDN'T force you down one path, and getting drafted was no guarantee of making the squad. You proved your mettle in the combine and summer league. ...

With that being said: If there was no way to have the Summer League, the D-League, and the Combine, then this current route might be best. The stupid game in New York with the Elite vs the All-Stars was something I loathed. It really did not matter what was done there. I scored 85 points and had 10 steals against Lillard last year and the highest in the Draft I got was 4 with Sacramento.
Not only that but because the Lakers did not have a first round draft choice I was not able to get on that team to play with Kobe, Nash, Gasol and the others I know and love without artificially tanking my relationship with the GM that actually did draft me and then making sure my OVR was within the correct window needed to be traded - sometimes for one of those players I wanted the ability to play in the first place! How was that better then what is shown for 2k15?!
In 2k13 it was totally acceptable because Leftos released tools to fix it. In 2k14 those tools were not available (at least for me) so I was SoL. This way at least I hope I can play on the Laker or Hornets or even the idiotic Timberwolves if I desire.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
That was one of the most dramatic things I've ever read, although it was well written.
Honestly, people will always find something to be upset about, 2K can't please everyone. I think this MyCareer looks really intriguing, the story they implement makes it more exciting. I had a lot of fun with MyCareer in 2K14, give this a shot.Fino Alla Fine

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
I hope you could do both. Like you'll play 1-2 games before the draft and if you play sub-par then you'll not be drafted. Then you'll have to do some try-out's like the one we are going to have. At any rate, IMO, this is a good change for me.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
TBF to go from average NBA rookie to Franchise player in less than a year is also pretty unrealistic, but a lot of people do it.
I'm sure If people had to play 4 to 5 seasons just to max out their ratings they wouldn't like it.Last edited by Yuss; 09-23-2014, 10:15 PM.Comment

But I still agree we should have a combine and other predraft things so we at least have a 'choice'.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
Yeah, I've never seen MyPlayer/Career as any kind of realistic simulation. You can become a 6-8 point guard that would put Michael Jordan to shame ... in your Rookie year.
MyCarrer is a fantasy mode, and a fun one at that. I personally like all the things they've done over the past few years to try to change things up and add a little different flavor to it. It would have been really easy for this mode to have just been the same thing year after year. Interested to see how this No Draft, 10-Day Contract beginning works out this year. If it's a flop, I'm sure we'll get the draft back next year. I appreciate that they're trying to keep it fresh though.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
He had two points and those were tangent. Whether or not you have a "story", the "path" in of itself is a story. And as was mentioned, until this mode gets the dynamics of WHERE you are drafted right, the point is moot. This, at least, gets us closer to some semblance of those differences.Comment

Re: No Draft in MyCareer-- But we were SO close.
Mr. Thinker doesn't know what he's talking about and uses every hot topic to take shots at suits. How this change is for the casual player is a baffling statement. The casual player normally prefers the "standard" path. Be treated as a star and have things handed to them. This certainly doesn't fall in line with that.Comment
