Video games are finally understood as a respected art form and hobby. They are interactive movies, virtual realities. The reason that we scrutinize these sorts of tactics and gimmicks in our games is because it detracts from that growth and respect that gaming has earned over the last few decades. How could anyone watch this piece and not think to themselves that the voice over work needs to be improved? Could the not do a second take? I just don't get it. Would you not be a little put off if you were watching a basketball movie with dialogue like this? Games industry makes more money than Hollywood these days. It's time for the developers to take the games as seriously as the gamers do. Gamers are no longer just teenagers and younger. Many of us are older and have families, and higher standards to create an immersive experience. I say, get these scripted segments correct or scrap them all together.

They took the time to add in some extra stuff that are nice little touches to the career mode and we're finding reason to complain about it? If they left it the same we'd be bitching about them not doing anything to improve the mode. They improve the mode with some of this stuff and we still bitch about it. We've just seemed to reach this point where there's nothing they can do to get a positive response out of some people.
I mean this in a healthy way, but I do not think there was ever a time where everyone loved everything being added to a sports video game here, and that's okay. It feels virtually impossible for a game to appeal to everyone's senses in every single regard.

That said, I also have never really felt reasonable criticism was an issue. I suppose random posts of "Sux, no buy" would wear out their welcome quickly. But if an addition to a game we enjoy hits us in a negative way, and we're on a message board where things like this are discussed, it might be reasonable to comment and perhaps suggest how one feels it could have been done better, no?

In this case, it's a small addition but not all small additions are good. It seems as though folks have used logical explanations of such opinions. If it was Pharrell popping up in a realistic manner, where there wasn't awfully written and performed dialogue and my likeness wasn't forced to talk in a manner completely divorced from any form of reality in a game whose goal has been to simulate reality, I think a lot of us would then find such a small addition to be positive.

As it stands, it merely serves as another small detail that helps illustrate a larger issue many have with the direction of MyPlayer. As I said in my original post, I respect that some people like it and I'm glad this type of thing has not carried over into the rest of the game (which seemed to be a legitimate concern before MyLeague's introduction) but I do not think that means we must ignore our reasonable thoughts and feelings on a matter. A negative response does not mean it's a big deal or that serious. It's just, a negative response, perhaps backed by reason. And that's okay.

I think this is great start to what MyCareer is going to be I think 2K is trying to build on what they had last year and they are doing a great job

You usually do a great job explaining your point of view, so that's really not an issue. But the complaints about this one outside of the voice acting needing work ISN'T reasonable IMO. How is Pharrell NOT popping up in a realistic manner? This kind of thing literally happens all the time in the NBA.

The ridiculous Jackson Ellis pre game talks, I get you and agree with that being unrealistic. This? No, it's not all all.

Not to be difficult, but the two clips you posted are actually great examples of what I feel would be a realistic way to implement Pharrell's appearance into the game. Those clips are both subtle and capable of being re-created in a realistic manner.

If my MyPlayer had naturally found a way to get to know Pharrell at some point during his career (say, followed by him on Twitter at some point, or however that stuff works) and then at some point, we could be seen briefly and subtly interacting with him prior to a particular game, perhaps even earning an offhand observation from the commentary team ("And there's VDusen, averaging 14 points per game over his last 12, catching a quick word with popular music mogul Pharrell before things tip off here"), I think that'd knock the socks off that stunted, forced, and awkward exchange we saw in the original post.

Basically, there's a lot of ways 2K could have gone about this without forcing a significant portion of us to immediately divorce from any kind of immersion. They opted to go the over dramatic route with our likenesses saying things that sound nothing like how or what a real person may say in that situation. That'll be okay for many, but it surely will be objectionable to many just as well.

It kind of reminds me of the LeBron skits I saw last year. Was there a realistic way of a MyPlayer interacting with LeBron James? Absolutely. I think there were an endless amount of directions that could have gone realistically. Instead, they opted for something out of the realm of, "I am LeBron James. You look to be getting good. Looks like we are the only one's warming up before the game. All our teammates are gone. Let me show you a dunk I do, then after you watch, you will then have that dunking ability as well."

Like I said on the first page, the problem isn't that they have Pharrell in the game(I like that and wish they had celebs pop up at every game like spike in N.Y.) the issue is this is something that'd be better w.o. the voice acting(atleast on the court).
Just imagine, you finish a game and it goes into a cutscene of you doing a interview and after you go over and give him the wassup or w.e and you see them interact for a second then he goes to the locker room or have animations in to where if you start making big plays you'll acknowledge him in the front row by giving him high five after a 3 or something(I think that'd be cool in general for front row fans). It just feels like there are better ways of doing it and saves us from the acting lol.

I'm not tryna make this too much about race, cuz I definitely don't think it intentional. But every time I see a dialogue scene with 2K, it always sounds like someone tryna sound black lol. It's annoying. Like so so annoying as a black guy myself to constantly have to cringe watching these unskippable scenes while the acting totally misrepresents us and how we are. You guys can let me know if I just sound crazy but I'm sure I'm not the only black guy who's ever felt "mocked" by most of the dialogue in 2K.
Again, not tryna make things racial but i can't help but notice my culture poorly represented and I'm sure guys from other races would like to have their culture represented too. No more white/Asian/Hispanic guys with black voices man. Please

                  What y'all think? I'm trippin???

Yeah. I would actually totally love the incorporation of celebrities and entertainment tangentially related to basketball being part of the 2K experience IF it were done in an authentic manner. In game action set to appropriate songs are great. Odd stitching of Jay-Z videos with 2K action that have almost nothing to do with each other and letting him scrawl all over the interface-- not so great. I'm pretty sensitive about tone and authenticity. It seems to be something the entertainment integration direction for 2K misses often enough. Perhaps improving the directorial direction is something that 2K would be served by revisiting.

Now who wouldn't love their MyPlayer and MyGM to sound more like The Association than Mighty Ducks 8 - Foul Play?

Let's just make it go back to menus and no cut scenes.. As a matter of fact so there is no cheese let's make it like turn based RPGs while we're at it. I would love it then. Final Fantasy Basketball 2k15!!!

I personally think you can chalk up any feeling of "trying" to sound black to the subpar voice acting. As far as the actual dialogue and word choice goes, seems pretty accurate for a young, and most likely hip NBA player, I know plenty of black and non black dudes who talk like that.

One of the few truly talented, diverse pop/R&B producers in the mainstream. Doesn't excuse the poor execution of his appearance in 2k15 though.
