On xb1 you can't even close to the camera without the box turning red.
My friend just came over with his xbox 1 (I have ps4). He spent over an hour trying to scan at his place and couldn't get it to work once... same issue as you. On the very first try at my place, nailed it... 6200 reference points. He did it again... Second time, nailed it again. 6100 points. 3rd time, 6500.
If the box is green when you're at a distance and loses you as you get closer, that means a light source is brightening up your face as you get closer. My guess is your TV. Dim it. If turning the brightness down doesn't work, then turn the backlight on your TV down. That's the setting that worked for me. My friend used his own xb1 in his place and my place. Hardware was the same. The only thing that was different was the lighting, and it worked right away in my house.

That's my point exactly, not everyone has the same set-up. It is a hit and miss affair for some more then others. It may not be cool but it's reality

Keep your chin up. You want your chin almost level. The scan has set reference points on where it thinks your eyes and chin should be. If you have your head tilted down, the scan of your eyes and chin are going to be lower than where the scan thinks they should be.

Think of all the times when you had school pictures taken. Head up, back straight, no slouching. Need to keep those things in mind.

If you've seen some of the scan fails with double eyes, usually the top eyes are where the model is and the bottom eyes are where they were scanned. If you see videos, the top eyes are always blinking.

i think the issue is in the x1 and its camera. i used the natural light and slow moving of the head...usually takes awhile but i always get above 10K and at one time 13K...the only problem is is the 2k saving it.... so far the 2 faces that were above 10K was deleted by 2k....... ;(
