I knew it, I can't believe that this is set up this way. This is whats making this game such a pain to play for guys like me who player lock or for those who play my career.

Can this please be fixed? I don't see any reason for why my contest and a contest from my teammates is being treated differently. This is whats "breaking" the game for me. this is why the cpu keeps making such a high % of their shots, because my teammates "hands" aren't as effective as my hands.

This makes player locking such a pain. I've been player locking since nba live 01. This is the first time I've truly felt that my teammates have been "gimped" on either end.

Please tell me that this is being looked at for both my career and player locking in general. I can't play this game any other way, I don't like controlling everyone and this is whats making the cpu make such ridiculous shots.

Thanks for reading and please fix this, there is no logical reason for my AI teammates to have less of an effect on shots than a user.

It was originally put in to compensate for the user's inability to react to shot attempts as quickly as the AI and to encourage people to be active defensively. Believe me the effect is very small. I can remove it but it won't make a noticeable impact on your teammates' ability to defend. That's a bigger task that I'm investigating already.

I mentioned it with a picture. I think it was in the picture thread, so that's how it likely got missed. Love that kind of stuff lol

But I am not actually having that big of a problem myself. I was just asking for those that do.
At times it certainly seems like the AI shoots too high, but then I check the stats and they are fairly reasonable.

        1. I do have a different question though. In mygm I use the Wizards and they are a good defensive team and yet they are really struggling with help defense on drives. Too many times Gortat and Nene will stay with their man as a perimeter player drives to the hoop and gets a uncontested layup. Sometimes they will be literally a few feet away guarding the low block and act oblivious to the guard driving.

What can I do to alleviate this? Setting their pressure to gap helps, but a few times this results in a def. 3 second violation.

        2. Also, what impact does coach grades have on gameplay? Sparing you the long story, in that same gm I had to hire a minimum salary coach with an "F" for offense and defense. It seemed like my team was dumber lol. slower rotations, reactions, and the like. I thought coach grades only affected simmed games. Was I wrong?

mike did you guys look at the issues on D wit the half court press players positions is wrong when you set your defense at half court preesure during the inbound players shouldnt come guard the ball and also the full court press being to easy to beat players get ran right pass and the help defense mainly the big men just dont rotate alot of times no matter what your defensive gameplans is even on screen and rolls the bigs be more focus on stayin with who they are guarding

Please remove this handicap, even if the effect is very small, it'll give people that player lock or play my career some piece of mind for now. AI controlled teammates should have the same ability as the cpu does when it comes to defense and offense.

At the end of the day, games should be decided by skill and talent, and not handicaps placed on those who choose to player lock.

            Thanks

OG spent a lot of time improving our help defense with Shawn, our lead AI engineer. The only times we saw the bigs not coming over to help was when they were stuck in a 2P offball post engage or getting caught up in some type of collision. Is that what you're seeing? Just need to nail down the root of the issue.

The coach grades actually do have an impact on gameplay. The effect shouldn't have been as dramatic as seeing completely inept AI or blown assignments but you will want a decent coach.

So try to make sure you're measuring the shooter up with your steps before your block attempts and gap enough to give yourself time to compress and get off the floor at the right time.

Our AI engineers spent quite a bit of time on pick and roll defense this year. It's difficult to say for sure whether what you're seeing is by design or a bug without knowing what the screen defense is being set to. I'll ping OG and see if he has any insight.

I believe pass vision affects the accuracy of human controlled passes, how well a player can thread the needle, etc. Might be used for pass selection too but I'm not sure.

Lateral quickness is used to adjust the onball defender's defensive slide quickness. Not sure what's up with Hibbert. I'll mention it to Jerson.

No. We don't put slow pass animations in to counter balance anything. Probably a bad asset that needs to be removed.

thank you so much for the reply. It really means a lot to get some insight on the game and its desired direction.

Ill do more testing with the passing, but i cant get as creative with the pick and roll as id like to think i could with the elite passers.

In regards to my pick and roll concerns, ill put together a detailed post and see if my concerns are echoed through-out the community.

                    1. Is there any way to get your teammates to pursue rebounds and loose balls more aggressively? They rarely, if ever, box out and many times seem not to even jump for rebounds even if they have position.

                    2. Do teammates have the ability to change shots mid-air? Playing on the Bulls, I regularly see Derrick Rose drive the lane and lay the ball directly into a shot blocker instead of attempting to avoid the block.

                    3. In the second season of MyCareer, I've seen seemingly random changes in the starting lineup throughout the 1st quarter of the season. I displaced Butler from the starting 2 spot (though I was rated lower at the time) and while McDermott has been the regular starter, Butler and Snell have seen 2 or more starts. Taj also had a 6 game stint as a starter. These were not due to any injuries. Is there any rhyme or reason to these changes? For instance, why isn't Butler permanently starting as the now 2nd highest rated swingman on the team?

                    4. Why do teams offensive sets devolve into isolate, drive, and pull up for a paint jumper after a play is completed or broken instead of seeing freelance tendencies kick in? There's never a pick and roll or a shooter run off of screens.

                    5. Big men seem to go exclusively to fadeaway to score in the post. Rarely do you see a hook shot or a drop step. Also, big men have no patience on the block. There is a post play where the 2 dumps the ball into the post and is supposed to cut through and clear that side of the court. The big men don't survey the court and usually put up a shot within 3 seconds of receiving the ball. Is this being addressed?

Not ignoring your questions... I just don't have good answers for you right now.

For #1, this is new feedback. I have no answer as to why your teammates would be rebounding poorly compared to your opponent. It might have to do with the difficulty level adjustment on the rebound ratings. I'll have to dig.

#2, no. The AI doesn't use the change shot mechanic

#3 I'll have to run by one of the MyCareer engineers. Our normal sub logic shouldn't behave like that.

#4 and 5 you might want to ask Da Czar. He would be able to explain the play behaviors and how they relate to the freelance actions better

Yeah it probably can't be fully resolved through settings. Hit up OG if you can. He's spearheading defensive AI now.

Got an issue with MyCareer where I get doubled teamed in the beginning of the game. My players stats are very good, yes, but no NBA team outright doubles someone without seeing how the game is going. I score about 6 points in the quarter and then when running a play, it gets interrupted because the computer sends another man at me and it keeps happening when I cross half-court.

Wondering if you guys are seeing this as well at the office?

                        Thanks.

That anti-shakedown code must be working. ☺

Probably some tweaking needed to the double team logic. Although I can't say I've seen this with anybody else here at the office. It happens every game?

Another issue that I have seen with regards to AI teammates, when player locking, is that if I set a matchup to "play tight", they will still leave a sizable gap between themselves and the offensive player, so I constantly have to use "smother" in place of it.

Also there seems to be a bug that happens around the corners to AI teammates. Occasionally they will backup 5 feet from their assignment to help sort of "double cover" an interior cpu player that is already being covered, so the cpu can easily pass the ball to the corner for an open 3 because my player magically decided to double another player without the ball.

Its like my player sort of gets stuck to the cpu opponent in the paint and doesn't go back to his man.

Hi Mike, my name is Brian..Just wanted to ask a question and I understand it might not be in the realm of your department..

We briefly spoke on here in PM a couple years back Ive had a feature request that Ive been wanting in the game for so long regarding the 'highlights' being able to view a play from the beginning of it to the very end having the camera go from the ball to the hoop back to the player showing the emotion and full length of it being able to choose all the different angles.

Last year wasnt to bad with it but I noticed this year it was stripped down even worse when clicking the box score and a players highlight from a play..the camera ends right away as soon as it goes through the hoop and the instant replay 'directors cut' is just as bad/pointless..

Sorry to bother with this but is such an important part to me playing your outstanding game and creating great highlights to save, this years game I pretty much can't with how quick the camera cuts off and doesnt go back to the player like previous versions as a real life game does. I understand it may not be high on priority list but do hope to see this simple yet impactful feature in the game soon have been wanting it since 2k11 and if you could forward this over to the presentation guys that would be amazing, thanks!

                                Hi Mike,
As many have said, thanks for the interaction! Much appreciated.

Could you please clarify as to what you mean by "working on it for the NEXT patch"? Is this the patch that is supposed to be coming shortly or another coming later down the road?

Kinda sucks that a small thing derails gameplay so much

Another Q...... Is there something being done with CPU teams 3 point attempts? It's been widely stated that AI teams don't shoot nearly enough threes.

Most don't even reach 10 attempts per game.
