Re: PS4 SharePlay - Playing with friends and lag

So I was just able to test this out finally with a friend both as a host and a guest.

First I played as the guest and connected to my friends game. The first thing I noticed is that the graphics are degraded down to 720p which didn't look too bad. I also noticed that when the camera moves up the court there is a slight blur which kind of sucks. There is slight input lag, but it's alot better than playing online currently, but it's still there.

Here is the thing tho. If you are the host there is zero input lag, it's just like playing an offline game. But while the host doesn't have input lag, the guest does which makes playing each other unfair.

Overall it's a cool feature, but it's definitely not a good substitute to playing the regular online mode. We probably will not be playing through SharePlay ever again.

Ah well, it was worth a shot. Hopefully they fix the lag soon.

The only feature that makes me jealous of the PS4. Best addition so far when it comes to these systems.

I had a friend from across the country "pass me the controller" on Battlefield 4. I then proceeded to play an ONLINE MATCH, off of his console, with no lag at all. I am honestly amazed this feature works this well. The graphics take a little hit. The picture isn't quite as crisp, and colors tend to be a little darker, but it isn't bad at all.

What I'm seeing though, is that the host's upload speed and the guest's download speed greatly determine how well this feature works. It looks like 2.5-3 Mb/s upload speed or higher is a must to avoid lag.

I have pretty solid download speed (45 Mb/s), and am able to play as a guest with friends without any problems. However, my upload speed is really bad (1.1 Mb/s). I tried letting a friend play one of my games (the same friend who shared BF4 with me) and he said there was a 1-2 second input delay, and he always gets kicked within a minute.

If you have trouble with SharePlay, I'd suggest going to "Network > Internet Connection Test" and see how fast your upload/download speeds are (and your friend's as well).
