This is not a live never. But my opinion:
2k players dunk/do several things in slow motion. They do this to be fluid and look good but it's not how players move.
2k had horrible defensive responsiveness. Post patch players move even slower
90% of the time you take a charge in 2k, the guy walks around you. They do it to take away cheese but in reality they are taking more and more controls out of the users hands and making pretty animations.
2k servers are inconsistent. Head to head has been great but countless times they have been gargarbage
With NBA Live as someone who owns both:
Good things: live has great collision animations
On ball defense is way more responsive. No forcefield around the ball. You don't want it stolen? Don't leave the ball in the players face.
Live has fantastic dribbling animations. The way players drive down the court is great. They skip down, but they didn't have to nerf fastbreak to do it.
Atmosphere is amazing. More realistic.
Commentary might be stale but it's fresh.
Halftime show, espn, and post game show.
Cons:
Late game a.i issues still not fixed.
post game animations are dreadful. Makes playing in the post look so ugly.
no face scan technology
less modes.
less popularity so harder to get games.
no sliders.
2k has more game modes. Recorded audio for all types of people, a better team for updating signature shots, accessories, and rosters. Face scan. It looks beautiful and better.
So there is a lot to like about both. 2k is overall a better game. However as a head to head gamer who rarely plays other modes anyway I like live. It has cheese too. And people can play badly cheesy just like 2k. But there are so many things it does great that 2k doesn't. Just like 2k does many things great.
You might not like EA as a company but they were upfront all year. They made several great changes to 14 and so far the same with 15. They have annoyances and still big issues. But they have a ton of things many people love about it.
This isn't meant to start a debate. It's showing I have both and have opinions about both and I'm willing to criticize burn.
To me , online servers, poor dribbling animations, nerfing so much that you take all control from users (charges, fastbreak, those things are huge deals to me. Gameplay is also a big deal. Live has an ugly post game but they have ton of other good gameplay features too.
With that being said, let's get to the main point. 2K can lose customers. If you represent 2K to the world you have to be professional, understanding, and upfront. Maybe not on a one day wait, but outside of that transparency is all we want. We would be fully understanding if we knew a timetable and knew what issues they were running into.
We only have issues because of the lack of transparency.
I'm torn. Live 16 has potential but they probably don't have the resources to fully back it. I believe they awesome things going. I don't think 2k will be willing to change their engine, and I think improvements Will stall. Things important to me won't change. Live possibly can capitalize but support, finances, and everything else is just low.
I'm grateful for both basketball experiences. I like both which is why I own both. You may favor one over the other but that doesn't mean it's trash. If your car looks nice, goes faster. Gets better gas mileage. that doesn't mean you car has a better radio, heating, tires, rims, etc.
Some people have different preferences. I'm looking to get the best out of both games
