In general, I don't have many complains about blocking shots. However, I've encountered a few issues, like players going to other way instead of contesting/blocking the shot or centers barely trying to block shots (and not exactly bad defenders). And as someone said, it's so frustrating when the players goes for a block or jumps a second later after hitting the button, when the opposite player has already go by you and/or scored, but that's not just a blocking problem, but a defense problem that I hope they fix this year.

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
I really hope they re-tool that system (for the guards and such) and bring it back, even if they don't bring it back until 2K17 it would be better than what we have now.Still don't get why they scrapped the blocking system completely after 2K14...I know it had some wonky aspects with guards getting blocks but I loved it man...I used to let guys get by me sometimes so I could square up and swat guys with Timmy...

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
This might be a reach, but if you check out the advanced controls for 2k16 you can see under on-ball defense "hold R2/RT and press Y/triangle for swat block". Guess we can only hope that 2k at least took a look at blocking shots to make it better, as im pretty sure this wasn't mentioned in 2k15's controls.Comment

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
That is a mechanic they had in very old 2k games. It made your guy jump very high straight up and down then swat at the ball. Just pressing Y would give you the weak low vertical animations you get a lot now. It made it so if you were set up you could get some nasty blocks. It wasn't effective on the move which to me balanced it. You had to think twice about going at a big man with his feet set near the rim.Comment

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
I hate this too. How many players would ever do this irl?On a side note....When I'm running out to contest a jumper I'd like to be able to jump off one foot. I'm so sick of being a little late and trying to jump at a shot only to have my man take a dump and read the entire newspaper before jumping. As if defense isn't bad enough

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
when did the blocked shot become so awful in the 2K series? I remember in the earlier ones, if you timed it just right with a dominant shot blocker the ball would go into the seats.Comment

It got to its absolute worst in 2K13....

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
NBA 2K11 had the best shot-blocking the series has ever seen. I'm just dumbfounded as to why year after year, good things are added and then taken out!?!?!?!?!?! It's like 2K purposely regresses when they should be progressing.
2K11 was the year of the shot blocker. 6 years later, we still have weak blocking mechanics....

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
In 2K11 you actually feared shooting in traffic because the chances of getting blocked were super real.
If you notice, defenders actually motion downward with their arms when swatting the ball. Like a volleyball spike. This resulted in big blocks going into the stands and into the backcourt. Now they usually just keep their hand straight up in the air and don't use any motion when blocking

I also feel like whenever defense is heavily focused on in sports game, it produces great gameplay (IE nba 2k11 and madden 05 for ps2)NBA 2K11 had the best shot-blocking the series has ever seen. Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
As someone who likes playing a center, I don't see why 2K11 is so beloved.
Oh, it's really good, don't get me wrong. I just can't see its sacred-cow status.
For instance, I still can't wrap my head around how 2K11's post offense is supposed to work. It got a LOT easier to understand in 2K12...unfortunately, a lot of other things changed that year as well.
I'm well aware that this is an unpopular opinion, and I do agree that, on DEFENSE, centers were at their best in that game. But I just couldn't get those post controls to work like I wanted.Comment

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
That's the thing. I loved that the post controls in 2k11 weren't so easy that everyone could play good in the post. I did some of my best work in 2K11 from the post. The controls weren't straight forward, but once you learned what to do.....you could chain together some serious moves in the post.As someone who likes playing a center, I don't see why 2K11 is so beloved.

I don't 2K will ever go back to a game that has a steep learning curve. They are getting bigger and are more about the $$$ now. And this is also why I think we will never again get a game that is really legit defensively.
2K14 on last gen was a defensive masterpiece....but 2K14 next gen IMO did not reflect that same type of gameplay. I remember LD2K raving about 2K14 last gen's gameplay but they only made that one more realistic because they knew the casuals would pick up the next gen copy because of the graphics etc.Lineup:

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
Can't we have an option for EITHER scheme to be in the game? That's the thing. I loved that the post controls in 2k11 weren't so easy that everyone could play good in the post. I mean, I was once given a psychological exam that had one part where I had to assemble a padlock. Of all the people in the room given this test, I was the only one who couldn't put it together from the Lego-style instructions.
I also can't solve a Rubik's cube to save my life.
(I'm also autistic. I wonder if that matters.)
Point is, ease of use counts for a lot. That's why we don't use DOS anymore.Comment

Re: Will blocking shots be improved in 2K16?
Thats not true at all man. 2k14 on the PC and X360 was an already polished game from years of working on it, which was really capped out as far as what they could do.That's the thing. I loved that the post controls in 2k11 weren't so easy that everyone could play good in the post. I did some of my best work in 2K11 from the post. I still have it on PC and continue to play it til this day because its that good, but what I hate is the revisionist history in these forums.
Alot of you guys cry like babies over things and when 2k changes them then its not as good as it was.
People complained about 2k11 and incessantly about 2k12. If anything 2k14 nex gens OMG trailer sold itself, which was a game they had to create like the old one from scratch just to get it up and working to play like the old one on the new console, and people complained about that gameplay too.Comment
