Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I am saying from what they have marketed so far it looks more or less exactly like the game I bought last year. Do I really need to spell it out directly for you?Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I was wondering the same thing, but maybe it is because the release date was moved up a few days then the years before, but Marketing wise 2k cant do much more to make me buy the game its already a yearly purchase for me, all the marketing can do is make the wait seem longer.Comment

2K16 Marketing Affect On You
Yes, you do, They haven't showed you **** yet in terms of gameplay! So how can you claim anything about it being the same game? And even if they DID, you'll still say this because, surprise, it WILL be essentially the same game. People that continue to expect major changes in the middle of a console generation are fools. The game is one of the highest rated games in the sport genre, yet you expect to make major changes? Ever heard of the saying "don't fix what isn't broken"? Last time a basketball game made major changes, it played like dog**** and disappeared for 3 years only to come back to people crying for a return to how it used to play. So, PLEASE kill the "same game" nonsense. If you are asking for more refinement of what's already there, I'm down. But back to the marketing, since there has been no gameplay info/marketing, what does your post have to do with marketing? I won't even begin to note that gameplay is the LAST thing you try to glean from videos and screenshots! PLAY the game before you judge gameplay.
PS: in a video full of dunks, jump shots, and sweating, please tell me how you can see "spacing". What *exactly* did you see that led you to this conclusion?Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 09-01-2015, 09:30 AM.Comment

2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I am curious to know if releasing a demo actually helps sales or not? The competition is releasing a demo on the 15th if I am not mistaken. I guess it is a brand new climate in basketball video games with 2 companies competing for our dollars. I like this climate because we as consumers ultimately win.
Other sports game genres have no competition outside of soccer. I am sure the marketing minds at 2k are making a calculated risk based on data and market research. I am curious to see if their moves pay off come launch.

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
At the end of the day %99 of people in this Forum are picking the game up PERIOD. Who joins a forum to post things about a game they DON'T care about, makes no sense. Sure I'd love to see gameplay but won't sway me not to buy if I don't.
Besides still having a blast playing 2K15."I'm so lonely....I paid a hobo to spoon with me"Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
So nobody remembers 2k used to drop dev blogs, ign interviews, multiple q&a sessions, let gamespot & ign actually play the early builds to figure out what could be changed, drop magazine q&a/cover stories, release demos and etc?
Like I've said before...this strategy just started maybe 3 years ago. The reason live flopped was because 2k & live both released gameplay videos & ppl saw live & literally commented it looked garbage & they wouldn't buy it. After that both companies stopped releasing early info. Live didn't release their game & 2k took advantage of being the WWF of basketball games lol.
This isn't normal marketing practice by any means. The clear reason is the game hasn't changed much. As far as this year we don't know. But they don't show gameplay anymore because they don't really have any competition. And because last year 2k15 played exactly like 2k14. Imho. I'm not hating. I'm gonna buy it again this year because basketball is my favorite sport & I like the way they dribble up & down the court. Lol. But seriously I'm expecting the same gameplay whether they market it or not.
For example Destiny is marketing their new DLC as some type of holy grail game refinement but I know it's gonna be the same base gameplay. Go here, do this, fight bad guys, talk to this person, get a new task, fight bad guys at different spawn point, rinse and repeat. Most games have a foundation they keep because changing it will be way too drastic for its consumers.
All 2k has been doing is changing the controls every year but the core gameplay stays. That's why players still slide and jumpers and contested dunks go in at a high rate. If they actually did market the gameplay videos I almost guarantee they would lose sales considering guys would see the same animation heavy dunk ons etc. Hell some guys here are already not getting the game because they feel 2k has hit a development wall as far as gameplay is concerned.
So yeah. Not marketing the game like they used to isn't really hurting. Especially considering they use Twitter and etc to gather data now vs whatever they used before. Different day in age. I wish they would go back to the old more informative marketing but tbh they don't need to. It would only hurt their brand at this point.Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
Calling nonsense on the 'same game' stuff...
IMO the only time 2k released two games that were relatively close was 2k13- 2k14 last gen...and even then, the improvements made in 2k14 made it a great game.....which is why some people still call it the best gameplay we've had overall.
That being said, it's still basketball. If your expecting 2k to destroy and rebuild every year you might die holding your breath.Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I enjoy videos of games I plan to buy, so it's disappointing.
Depending on what they show prior to release, it may push my purchase back a day or 2 as the days of me buying games sight unseen are over. I need to see gameplay vids (CPU vs CPU, User vs CPU & User vs User) & know what's been improved/added.
NBA 2K would have to remain stagnant or regress for me not to purchase. It's been my favorite game for the past 9-10 years.Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
By same game I don't mean exactly the same but in terms of what's under the hood. Nothing has changed. I'm not expecting a full overhaul of anything. But I distinctly remember guys claiming sliding was gone in 2k15. That was a lie.
On top of same game...what I mean is animation based. If guys can't see they're playing the same game that's on them. But I realize the only way to change that is to tear up the inside. I'm not asking for or expecting that. But I do realize when I'm driving a car with a new exterior but the same engine.
I could compile game clips from 2k14/15 and the only way you would be able to tell the difference is by lighting. If I added a filter nobody would know what's 14/15. I could do the same for 11-14 on last gen lol. I'm not knocking 2k by any means. But to say the game has made that many significant improvements to it's base isn't true.Just my opinion.
It's like Super Mario 1-3 thru World thru 64 lol. The mechanics of jumping on top of an enemy still remains. 2k has built a great core but at the same time it gets stale when guys can use the same exploits year in and year out. Haven't played a 2k yet where 3s & dunks weren't overpowered. I can expect the same next year and I won't be disappointed because it's been like that since day 1.Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I guess.
'No change to its base' just sounds like a generic term to use.
I'm not sure what successful yearly sports game tears apart its foundation with every new game ...wouldn't really make any sense to either. The Super Mario reference makes perfect sense, for the opposite argument...why would you change solid mechanics that people have been enjoying 20+ years now? It works and you can build upon it. Super Mario has, and so has 2k. If we are saying with a straight face that 2k has shown no significant improvement since last gen...then I just....don't know lol....
I'll definitely take you up on that compilation though.....Comment
