Difficulty levels are necessary. Especially for first time players of this game, or older people and children who aren't very good at this game.

They have to play on rookie or pro and have an unfair advantage against the CPU to either win or get better at the game. If each level played fundamental, sim basketball, there would be no need for any difficulty. People would get frustrated always loosing, not knowing what to do.

It the same reason people need HOF difficulty. Some people like the hardest challenge, some people need it. If you want a hard challenge, but still keeping some sort of realism, play on superstar, adjust sliders to make it harder if you like.

But if you go to THE hardest difficulty, you're sacrificing realism and that's in EVERY sports game. It's the reason they have "special" names like hall of fame, all madden, legend, etc.

They aren't meant to play sim, they're meant to challenge you, and challenge you like you've never been challenged before. That's the point of the level, people cannot expect realism.

Oh I get that....and I agree with your original comment.....it was just a side note. I just don't think some things shouldn't be compromised regardless of difficulty....I get HOF and its design....but you see a lot of wonky things on superstar as well..

      Pretty easy, to be honest.

I run with auto playcalling, and when a play breaks down, I get the ball and do a PnR. If the D bites I get a lane. If they choose to double instead, and they often do, I pass to the roll for a lay up, which either results in a foul or a basket.

That's pretty much it. Otherwise I just force transition and look for lanes/oops. OKC is pretty good at that. Speedy line up.

        Re: Problems with HoF cheese

So there were a total of 53 field goals made by your Thunder. You made 39 of those inside the paint (78 points) and then hit 5 3-pt shots.

So you made 9 shots in the "mid range" area during the contest in a game you scored 125 points.

        So:
74% of the time you score your basket in the paint
17% of the time you score mid range
9% of the time you hit a 3

I would like to see a user on OS who has success versus the CPU and doesn't score 74% of their buckets from inside the paint.

It's about the only thing that worked for me. My 6'6 SG is too slow for middies, and has ball control so low that I can't explode out of ISO moves. So that pretty much leaves off-ball/transition/PnR.

Comes the 4th quarter and all of a sudden everyone on my team can't make shots, while CPU makes pretty much all shots contested or not. Which leads them to close the gap and win the game.

So I want to point out a few issues.
            • CPU makes too many contested shots and layups on HoF. SS doesn't suffer from this problem as much. Still, it's not fun to see your defensive efforts mean nothing, while on the other end, you can't make open B+ shots all game.
              • One consequence of this is that all games played on HoF are very high scoring. My team have to score around 130 points a game to have a chance of winning at all.
              • Another consequence of this is that rebounds suffer since there are so few missed shots. Just switching to Super Star allows me to get over 10 defensive rebounds a game easy, while on HoF I struggle to get more than 5.

            • Hot/cold or the momentum system makes no sense. How can you be hot 3 quarters long, and all of a sudden can't make open shots in the 4th? That doesn't happen IRL that often. Look at GSW, when they have a 20 point lead on you before the 4th, they'll run you out of their gym in the 4th. Actually, look at any competent teams, they'll do the same.
            • Defensive pressure from teammates seem weaker compared to SS. There's more silly mistakes, bad judgement and bad rotations, which is weird. They should be playing tighter, better, since it's HoF. If the CPU can do it, why can't my teammates? Also, again, too many contested makes, leading to sky high FG% even though we play good defense most of the time. I can't imagine how much better D we have to play to make them shoot <40% like IRL.
            • 4th quarter needs tweaking. Again, it's not realistic to be hot and playing well all game and all of a sudden open shots don't fall. When you're hot and you keep getting good looks, you stay hot. It's that simple. I understand the want to keep the game challenging, but honestly there aren't enough blow outs in the game. If a team has a bad night defensively and aren't on par with the opponent offensively, a blow out is the result most of the time.

O ya. Forgot about that. [emoji53]. Well, it's using the sliders you had before you started it correct. . ? So if you were to start another one, you can try theses sliders and let me know what you think of them. It's the MOST, true to the real game sliders I know of.

If that's the case, I wouldn't play that mode. MyLeague is similar enough, just without a few features

                      Re: Problems with HoF cheese

Trust me when I tell you, I was frustrated too.

I am going to be doing a tutorial series on this. I made a thread about how shots need to be reduced because of how badly I dominate the HOF CPU. Currently HOF is WAY TOO EASY and games are far too unrealistic once you know how to beat them. Real life variables aren't a factor here and I dare say that HOF might be easier than last year. It's like post patch 3 without patch 3.

                      Here is my recent game:

Run smart plays up the court. If you don't like the play, run one after the half court line. If it doesn't work set manual pick and rolls. Isolate into them pretty much every time and go the opposite direction of the screen for either an assist or a drive/jumper. Stay on your man no matter what on defense, don't rotate like you would in the NBA. Keep one foot in the paint (figuratively) when guarding the opposite side of the ball handler. AND ALWAYS CUT BACK DOOR.

Set pass option to 'openness' and hit the man you see getting ahead of his defender cutting to the rim every time. Don't miss these as they are very open and easy baskets. If you ever see your teammate in front of his defender cutting, pass it to him even if it seems the pass might not get off. Because it will. Don't crash offensive boards too much as a guard unless in proper position. Always get out on defense ASAP on the break and you will stop a lot of fast breaks which is how the CPU get's it's unreal amount of easy baskets and momentum. But if you stop the fast break they get all confused because they can't just jam the paint.

Currently playing on HOF with an 88 overall. Boosts to Jump shot, athlete and defender.

Not saying HoF is difficult, it's just irritating. I know exactly how to beat HoF, however I don't like how the stats end up.

It's hilarious that I have to consider a great defensive night a night where the CPU doesn't shoot above 55%. A great defensive night should be a night where the CPU struggle to shoot past 40%.

I hav never ever have a game where the CPU shoots less than 40% on HoF. EVER. Also I've never blown out any team by more than 20 points, EVER. No matter how good I play. Even if my team has 70% shooting for that night. Nope.

I play on HOF sim the IA will give up the roll man for eazy buckets all day. I get most of my 3's in transition. In the half court the IA just don't give up many open shoots. If you want to win it has to be 85% of your points in the paint on HOF sim.
