Very happy to see this thread. Well, not 'happy' to see others concur there is limited defense, rather to have it acknowledged a bit off.

For the life of me, I can't stop opposition from magically blowing by seemingly good on-ball defense...then the would-be help.

Live does a pretty good job in extending player contact a smidgen, accompanied by a controller rumble to acknowledge it. Almost like a trainer on where to stand, how to move (based on controller feedback). I'm sure 2K can easily put something similar into the game.

A bit OT, but NHL could also greatly benefit from a similar feedback mechanism on stick lifts.

it seems like the defense is not the same as it was during launch. i know that they tweaked it because it is no where the same.

You can't teach people how to play..but can give advice and tips, because everyone has different playing style.

1. Cover the area and the defender at the same time(helping out teammates)
2. Play for defending not stealing the ball(like OG said arm length)
3. Force the ballhander to certain spot(trap)
4. Lol..talk to yourself while playing.

But some flaws need to be patch(SS sim)

A. Help defense awareness( transition defense)
B. AI dribbling has to be tone down..tired of the traffic dribbling collision.
C. Lateral quickness
D. A new simulation sliders(for higher levels)

There's nothing wrong with this game.

Thank you for this. Sam Pham is a great teacher (along with Da Czar) of everything 2K and this video has shed some light for me in offline MyLeague play.

I was getting highly frustrated with the lack of help defense and piss poor paint defense. So much I actually have not played and am waiting for a major patch.

However I went ahead and employed his advice in never ever using "Neutral Defense" in POE's and instead always use either "protect the paint" or limit outside shots" (whatever it's called)

It has made a difference. Also really diving in and making custom changes to how you play each player.

The game demands this. It really does. I have come to the realization that you must customize your defensive settings for every player you face on every team you play or you will run into issues.

This is not a casual game. It is a basketball simulation.

I was really frustrated like many of you with defense this year. But they went deeper with individual settings. More so than 2K15. You need to really use all the tool made available to get this game playing the way you want on the defensive side of the ball.

Big time. A patch is still needed to tone down rocket passes into the paint..half court etc. And the help defense awareness needs to be tuned in a big way. Too many times my guys leave their man and leave them wide open and the AI exploits it all day.

But using the tools has really helped me to get a grasp of defense on 2K16. It's a different game than 2K15 (which I thoroughly enjoyed too BTW).

I'm not seeing run and gun. Although transition D sometimes seems weak. Still seeing realistic FG %. I found some fantastic sliders I downloaded from the community. If you play offline go check out some sliders. Use the point of emphasis too. Seems to help me

I use it a long side LT since I play with def assist at 0.

I guess its technically "shading" according to the manual

It reminds me of how the CPU completely stops you in place when trying to turbo, lol. Of course its not as powerful as that, and they can break out of it....but when they're literally trying to turbo through you it helps a lot. IF they try to pull up in your face while your doing it a lot of times you'll get a strip.

I can show you better than I can tell you...I recorded a clip of it last night that I will post when I get home.

OK here we go. Time to expose this madness....as you can see that barnes hands are going THREW the ball my friends. Mediocre I tell you. This happens a lot with the comeback cheese glitch & shot clock cheese. Enough with the madness 2k...please, I'm asking as a friend
