Wanna play sim? Either don't play online at all, or find a sim league.

They are literally your only options.

The game rewards cheesers, it's a simple as that.

The only way you're going to get a realistic game is to get away from the causal online matchups which are choc full of the worst of the worst.

I quit playing online 2 years ago and never looked back. The AI plays a better game than most 2k online ballers.

Re: Tried playing SIM. Gotta go back to cheese

I've been winning with sim play online since the game came out and I've only lost one game since the patch.

This includes MY TEAM games. I slow the game way down, force my opponent to take jumpshots by gapping when I play on-ball defense and I manually go after all of my rebounds. So my game is based around limiting my turnovers, rebounding, working the low post, forcing turnovers, and controlling the overall pace of the game.

Most guys online do not have a half court offense at all....so if you can keep them out of the break you can control the game with tough defense.
      Lineup:
      PG) Gary Payton
      SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
      SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
      PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
      C) Hakeem Olajuwon

I do the same as this man here, except I make sure I take the highest quality shot every possession. You can cheese as much as you want too, but at the end of the day if I'm making every shot I'm gonna beat you anyway.

Think of it this way you are running a 3-2 extended freelance as your base HOWEVER you are getting doubled a lot. What do you do ? Not switching your freelance and trying to PASS out of the doubles is the wrong answer. 3-2 spacing doesn't allow for smart passes out of double. Then of course you will say well Sam Pham I can't switch to pace motion freelance fast enough when the double comes. To that degree you are correct, you can't but what you can do is quickly call a horns play or 4-1 PnR play so you get the type of spacing and motion you need to destroy doubles.

You don't run plays to RUN them, you read the defense every possession and apply the correct play within the correct base freelance. Playing 2K just to run plays and do extra passes isn't the right approach.

Read the D, read your opponent's defensive tendencies, understand your roster's strengths. Combine all those information then use a combination of plays and freelances that maximizes your chances of success within that data set. No sim No cheese, just superior tactics vs inferior tactics. Sorry for the rant, but that's what you have to do. Is not as simple from switching over from "SIM" to "cheese", essentially what you are really doing is going from playing slow and over reliant on plays to playing fast and loose.

Your original "sim" strategy isn't optimal hence why you lost more, your new "cheese" strategy will work well against many average users online so you will win more. But you haven't really improved as a 2K player either way; I am not knocking you, if you watch me you know I am always happy to help. I am giving you the advice you need to become a better player so you will not only win, you will feel like you IMPROVED.

From your original post, it sounds like you understand you haven't necessarily improved even tho you are winning more. Ignore sim and cheese ask yourself if you have optimized your tactics, if you haven't then there's more work to be done. Which to me is the best part of 2k, there's really no level cap or ceiling in how good you can become. Don't just play to win man, play to improve and the wins will come, and those type of wins feel the best.

Oh ok i see. You might see the frustration we all go through alittle more in play now, especially if your using a tier 3 team.

Game isnt really balanced IMO. They try to keep it balanced through fg%'s which is why most games are always close.

Dunno how you guys have the patience for it. I can play as realistic or 'sim' as I want, yet if my opponent isn't playing to that standard it totally ruins the immersion of the game for me. Just kills the experience.

Re: Tried playing SIM. Gotta go back to cheese

Playing too fast, forcing shots inside, over dribbling, zig zagging etc is a recipe for disaster. I've been most successful slowing down, moving the ball and exploiting mismatches.

Turbo cheese with Wall,Westbrook,Kyrie can be limited by switching to a big to help.

Go under screens and force tough midrange jumpers. Adjust settings if necessary.

                    Cheddar won't make you better.

IMO exploits are easier to stop in Play Now because you aren't playing Curry, Lebron, Durant,Hakeem and Jordan at the same time.

I am a new 2k player and I haven't been online yet. What are some of the things that are considered Cheezy that people online do?

MyTeam...putting players like Lebron James and Tracy McGrady at PG.

Ranked Matches...zig zag, never making subsitutions, throwing hail mary passes being three of your players for easy buckets, baseline cheese, spin jumper and then pump fake into the lane

MyTeam...zig zag, going baseline every single time, baseline stepback threes...

Watching some of your videos i'm not sure why you claim to be a (great) SIM style player tbh. You abuse certain game mechanics and AI flaws 95% of the times.
Youtube is flooded with these "tactics". And of course they work against the average one-dimensional run&gun gamer who can't adapt at all.

Cheesing is easier but sim is more effective. Playing sim is a longer, more arduous road to become good at but far more worth it. Just know the keys to a good offense (know your personnel, playbook/freelance offense and matchups). Same applies to the defense which is something I feel is often overlooked when talking sim.

The information is out there to help make you better, you just got to keep at it.
