suggest u play more off-ball controlling the 5 or 4 and help cover the open lanes in the paint area. sorry that my suggested settings didnt help u much. at superstar, other than those u described, cpu has many other ways to score on u.

JoFri, love the thread. In my opinion, in 2K16 there are some defensive lapses that make you scratch your head but most non-sense can be contained. My philosophy is vastly different then how you set your defensive settings and like you, I am far from frustrated most times when I play this game on SS/SIM (11 minute quarters).

I customize my defensive settings for each and every player. Yes, it is timely but I do not want to play moderate off-ball on Steph, Klay, Middleton, Redick, CP3, or even Jimmy Butler for that matter. I deny pure shooters and utilize my POE, which is where a lot of back-door cuts can be prevented.

Set your POE to protect the paint (never limit perimeter or they'll hug shooters and gape you with cuts all day), and neutral or conservative AND customize your defensive settings for all players and I have great success most times.

You will see your CPU react similar to how the CPU will steal your silly interior passes AS LONG AS YOU PLAY GOOD on-ball defense and they don't feel the need to help with the player your defending. They will tip and steal passes for days, so I never leave my POE defensive settings to auto.

Also, I love the pre-rotate defensive setting at the very bottom. I utilize it for most bigs and rare exceptions of 2 and 3 guards who will attack the basket off of screens like Kawhi and Lebron. This is so important to have your defense prepared for the interior pass that you know is coming.

Thirdly, one of my favorite features is to double team off of a none-threat AND pre-rotate. Example, if Steph is killing me and Bogut is on the court just for the rebound and defending purposes. I'll tap L1 and press Bogut's icon and my center will come to double and pre-rotate to Bogut as we get the ball out of Steph's hands.

The double when you hold L1 is not intelligent BUT if you icon double team, it is glorious and works wonders as long as you have your defensive settings in line. I'm also gapping Bogut for off-ball and forcing him to shoot the rock instead of Klay or Steph.

With that being said, you will still see your center drift under the basket for a free bucket to the CPU every once in a while. Nevertheless you can almost see/feel it coming. The CPU PG slows it down and your center is in dunce land while the opposing center is sprinting down the lane. Click on him, vertical contest and stop that cheese play that comes once or twice a game.

If you take the time to understand the opposing teams strengths and weaknesses, you can hold teams to under 45% and under 100 points/game. Icon double teaming, pre-rotate and tailor your defensive settings to a player's strengths and weaknesses and 2K16 plays a clean game of ball more often than not.

This! hated that glitch when that happened in the 4th quarter. Lol i didnt want to go into that as i wanted this thread to focus on defensive settings and controls.
i'm struggling with icon DT controls. sometimes it works but most times it wont.
thanks for the poe tips. i did that protect the paint long ago and didnt quite favor on how my cpu teammate defend the shooters. i dont mind trying it out again in the next few games since now we are post patch 4 already.
i know what u mean, setting moderate sounds suicidal for klay. as i play on-ball most of the time, i'm able to close up on the shooters in time. set to moderate allows me to manual help easier.
i think yor pre-rotate tips can help coldkevin as he is still struggling with team defense.

hope so JoFri, and thank you guys for your effort trying to help me with all this tips
i'm following your suggestions and i begin to see something good on the defensive side. Yes, there are still situations where i'm struggling, for example backdoor passes and lack of contact under the rim or stupid cpu decisions , but in general i see a better defense in my cpu teammates. I'm trying to figure out what pre-rotate exactly do....

            Re: Playing Defense

Ok, guys. This has been a problem for awhile, now, and it's really killed my enjoyment of the game. I'm tired of seeing the CPU just force their way into the paint every trip up-court. They don't want to pass the ball around and look for open shots. They just drive, drive, drive. I have their inside shot and attack the basket sliders set at 5, close shot at 20, mid-range at 65, and 3 pointers at 55. Have any of you found a way to fix this issue either with sliders or other settings? If I can't get it figured out, I just don't think I want to play this, anymore. Suggestions?

i havent been playing the sliders so i cant comment much. perhaps u could check out the sliders thread.
wat team are u using and which team gives u the most problem? what is yor AI assist strength? which level are u at? i assume u tried the settings in my first post and still didnt work?

I'm the Lakers in offline MyLeague. I play on pro. EVERY team just drives on me like crazy. I'm going to try the "protect the paint" in POE, next.

if u play alot on-all D, suggest that u lower the AI Defense Assist strength. some prefer 0, i am good with 30. this will help u to gain more control on the player defending the perimeter drives. meaning, the higher u set, the more unwanted movement u get. eg i was defending wade and i notice the ai wade likes to do this: 1. back dribble to bait me. 2. quick cross to change direction on the drive. now if u set to 100, u will notice that yor defender tend to be baited and u will feel a input lag on yor controls. like, i see wade change his direction, then i change too by pointing the left stick to the same direction wade goes to. but by the time the controls listen to my input command, wade already cross past u.
once wade drove past me, my ai defender who has high help defense iq, will promptly leave his man to help no matter what. then thats where i fail in my defense.
do note that setting to 30 or lower can greatly help but in reality, u wont be able to defend the drive 100 out of 100 times.

                    Re: Playing Defense

to add on, if i see wade change direction by going to the right, i DON'T go to the right. i point my left stick + left trigger + turbo (optional) to the right at an ANGLE. once the bump animation kicks in, release the left trigger AND put the left stick to neutral and see which way he goes to. sometimes, the opponent is so quick that i "anticipate" his next move.
some also suggested flicking the right stick to cut the drive. u can try and see if it helps.

Just one short clip. The CPU went for spotup instead of driving during the break. This is on superstar simulation sliders.

                        Defense Breakdown

As mentioned in the previous post, the CPU will find ways to score. This video shows exactly what it means and you cant defend that when you are playing on-ball defense.

This video shows excellent ball movement and power screen plays by the CPU. I can live with these as these can be defended (read the play, switch to off-ball).

                        Playing Defense
With much practice, playing defense is possible and fun. Mix it up with blocks, charging, right stick shot contest etc.

Love the post defense. Check out the controls breakdown.
